Duke Thomas, also known as The Signal, is a member of the Court of Owls.

After the world fell apart and his mentor Batman was presumed dead, Duke and the rest of the Batman Family fought in the ensuing conflicts. This was until the rise of a new villain named Omega, who was actually a maddened Batman wielding the Anti-Life Equation. Using the Equation, Omega subjugated the wills of his former allies, including Duke. This was until Tim Drake devised a blocker against the Equation. With it, he freed his fellow vigilantes and hundreds of other people. This group became a resistance movement called the Court of Owls, as the symbol of the bat had been perverted to evil.

Upon learning Omega was creating a way to amplify the Equation to levels beyond any blocker, the Court launched an attack on his headquarters. They lost, and many members died.

The Court had lost all hope, until a clone of Omega and Wonder Woman arrived. The new Batman managed to rally the Court to try again, with Duke being one of his supporters.

The plan involved Wonder Woman and the Court infiltrating Arkham Asylum, which was heavily guarded. To pass through, they would use M.A.D.T., the last invention of Jervis Tetch, a "neuro-wave" broadcast by Jim Gordon that would force enemies' brains to see Duke and the others as non-threats. Using a device made by Riddler, they were able to open the door to find Martian Manhunter was the amplifier. It was at this moment that Omega shut the doors, separating Diana, and his men captured Gordon and turned M.A.D.T. off. The Court was then besieged by Omega's enforcers, the former supervillains of Gotham. During the fight, Duke was stabbed by Scarecrow and started foaming at the mouth.

Duke survived, and after Omega's death, he was seen in his Signal armor taking a selfie with Bryce Grayson as the heroes awaited the arrival of a baby Kal-El from another reality.[1]
