Synopsis for "Controlled Burn"

In an alternate universe, the boy who will grow up to be Superman loses his loving adoptive parents in a car crash and is placed in an abusive foster home. A few years later, his super-hearing develops, allowing him to hear the father beating the mother at night. He confronts the man and accidentally kills him with his heat vision, and the horrified woman chases him out of the house. He is quickly arrested and taken to a government facility, but he escapes with his newfound super-strength. He finds the rocket that brought him to Earth locked up in the facility, and it gives him Jor-El's Sunstone.

He flees to the Amazon rainforest, where the Sunstone creates a Fortress of Solitude for him and he meets the hologram of Jor-El, who tells him that he is Kal-El, the last son of Krypton. Kal-El tells his father how humanity has mistreated him, and Jor-El says that he must save them from themselves. Kal-El trains for years to reach the full potential of his powers, and then reveals himself to the world as Superman. For twenty years Superman tries to inspire humanity to be better, but it seems that mankind's basic nature cannot change, as evil still persists.

Eventually, he meets his brother Tal-Rho, who tells him his plan to remake Earth as a new Krypton. As leading by example had failed, Superman joins Tal-Rho's cause and together the brothers destroy Metropolis in seven minutes. Superman ruthlessly crushes all resistance until only John Henry Irons stands against them. He fights Irons in space but he disappears through a dimensional rift. Meanwhile a shadowy figure watches them through a portal.
