Synopsis for "Solace"

Lois Lane, the Red Tornado, has been drawn to the site of Terry Sloan's big plan to outwit the traitor who wants to steal the Genesis Device by using it first. Wonders are coming from across the planet as extinct animals are birthed whole from the living earth. It is a night of portent and thunder - and Lois Lane, GBS News staffer, has the exclusive.

Power Girl and Val-Zod show up independently, sparking a pre-existing argument between the two. Power Girl, keen to end the fight so she never has to see Val again, punches a hole in Sloan's spire, apparently exacerbating the stormy weather...

Twelve months ago, during the planetfall of the TSS Aurora, Red Tornado pulled herself from the wreckage and went to try to help people. But people seemed angry at her inhuman power and when they shot at her, she flew away. As she climbed higher, she suddenly realised that she had lost her world, her husband, her father, her humanity, and had now lost her people. Feeling paralyzed, she stopped flying, crashlanding in a nearby woods. Here, she met Green Lantern, now saying he was an avatar of the planet, dedicated to preserving life. And that she, Lois Lane, deserved to live, if she could only find the strength. When she tries to engage with Green Lantern as a person, asking him to take off the ring that empowers him, he flies away.

At a loss, and not needing to eat or sleep, Lois had traveled the world for weeks after planetfall, watching the colonies grow. The various Wonders helped where they could, as Power Girl and Val-Zod realised they had superpowers when the red sun was down, and proceeded to build Neotropolis in the course of a night; as the Flash helpfully constructed timber-frame houses in Midwest City; and as Jimmy Olsen formed a community called Erebus where he was revered as some kind of guru.

While wandering the planet, Lois met Hawkgirl, who was looking for the lost TSS Aphrodite. As Lois mentioned that she didn't think she had a place in the new world, and the people who had attacked her, Hawkgirl insisted that the only way she would be happy was if she stopped running away and started running towards something.

Buoyed, Lois returned, to find that lives had begun, but that people still clung to their old lives, with every city having a memorial wall, where people put up pictures of missing people, hoping for closure. Going from city to city, she saw all of the walls, and the people who visited them. Until one day, when she was able to connect a man in Neotropolis with his family in Midwest City, bringing joy. When they thanked her, she cried in happiness. They offered clothes; the first set she had owned since planetfall.

In the present, the attack on Sloan's spire has somehow caused the Genesis Device to start creating monsters. For a minute, the heroes are overwhelmed - but Green Lantern appears, cordons off the area, and shuts down the Genesis Device. As the Wonders stagger from the wreckage, they discover a horrific scene: Terry Sloan is dead, and the Genesis Device has been stolen. If they cannot recover it, then their whole society is in jeopardy!
