Synopsis for "Father's Day"

On Apokolips, in the Mobius Chamber at the core of the planet, Mister Miracle fights Darkseid, Big Barda turns on Fury and attacks her, and Mister Terrific and Dodds hold onto the platform. Fury says that Barda will now be known as Barda the Betrayer; Barda retorts that she'll be rewarded for her loyalty to Darkseid. Darkseid tells Miracle that human technology could never defeat him. Terrific asks Dodds what they can do; Sandman responds that they should stay out of the way of the fight. Miracle calls to Fury to fall back, as they are outmatched; they try to fly up through the entrance, but it is filled with rectifier drones. As they fight their way up, they lament the situation; unfortunately, before they can get far, Barda gabs Fury by the angle and pulls her back down, saying she's been waiting to kill her. Fury yells to Miracle to flee as Darkseid pursues him. Miracle thinks to himself that abandoning Fury there feels as terrible as Barda's betrayal. Darkseid thanks Miracle for freeing him, and says that he had fed on the heart of Apokolips to regain his strength; he had assumed Miracle's anger would be a catalyst to eventually free him. Darkseid fires his Omega Effect at Miracle, but the Boom Spheres absorb it. Realizing this, Miracle tries to direct them at Darkseid, but the two have a struggle for control over the technology. Darkseid remarks that, while Miracle may have been born a god, it is he who has the stronger willpower, as he made himself into a god, having once been something else. Miracle, knowing that the Boom Spheres work by teleporting matter between themselves, ponders what would happen if he slams them into each other with Darkseid in the center. As Darkseid proclaims that he cannot be defeated, Mister Miracle does just that, and with a great explosion, blasts a hole all the way to the surface of the planet. Unfortunately, this proved unsuccessful, as Darkseid flies out of the hole with Mister Miracle in handcuffs. He comes upon Fury, standing over the body of Big Barda. She is yelling at Barda, saying she and Steppenwolf turned her into a monster, but in the end, Barda didn't get to kill her. Darkseid approaches, telling the woman that he's impressed by her skill. Recognizing that she is freed from the mind control, he notes how she knows how her mother was murdered and her father had her kill her own kind on Amazonia. Fury yells at him to kill her; Darkseid is pleased with her rage, and offers her a place at his side. She accepts, much to Miracle's surprise. Darkseid also offers to forgive Miracle if he'll work for him again; Miracle remains silent, to which Darkseid says he will kill Earth and Miracle with it.

Later, in the Court of Apokolips, the nobles (Paternus, Rectifier, Lowest, Arcanis) speculate whether or note they can trust Fury's defection. They agree she is a savage and may be a traitor, and joke that she will fit right in because of this. Fury says she doesn't care what they think, as she takes orders from Darkseid, and they from her. Arcanis says that, as Keeper of the Lore, she needs to ask some questions. She asks her about invading Earth with Steppenwolf; about her killing the Amazonians; about Steppenwolf's death; and about her mother's death. She is tempted to attack on this last one, but remembering how Miracle told her to channel her anger, she responds calmly. After leaving the nobles, Fury walks down a hallway, composing herself, when a voice from the shadows says that they were harsh on her. It is Terry Sloan, who says he's also known as The Traveler. He is no longer in his Mister 8 outfit. Asking him what he wants, he says that he'll tell her where Miracle is being held, and that they should be at a certain place at a certain time to learn some important information for the cause. She scoffs, saying she isn't a traitor.

In the Pit of Apokolips, Mister Miracle is being held prisoner, restrained, and tortured, with rectifier drones crawling all over him. He screams out in pain. He thinks of how he should have known that all Apokoliptonians are evil, evidenced by Barda and Fury; only those from New Genesis, like himself and born of High Father, can be good. Suddenly, Fury bursts through the wall. Miracle asks if she was sent to kill him; she says no, she is here to help him. He asks how he can trust her now; she tells him that, having spent so much of her life brainwashed, she was able to trick Darkseid so that she could rescue Miracle. He doesn't believe her, to which she responds by tearing off the restraints and torture devices, saying that should convince him of her loyalty. As the two run down a hallway, Miracle says she should have left him; the humans cannot hope to defeat Darkseid. She rebuts this, saying she would rather die like her fellow Amazonians than work for Darkseid. They finally come to the meeting point, high above the Court of Apokolips. She says Sloan wanted them to see what is about to happen; Miracle suspects it is a trap.

In the courtroom below, the nobles meet with Sloan and Darkseid, seated at the throne. Darkseid asks the Traveler why he has come, when he'll soon be visiting Earth; Sloan retorts that this Earth isn't his home. He turns on a holoprojector, saying he knows about the multiverse, New Genesis, and High Father, Darkseid's brother. He explains that he knows the two traded earths just as they traded their sons as a peace offering. Sloan says that he wants to make a deal, one to which High Father already agreed: Darkseid can have this Earth, Earth 2, if he leaves Sloan's home alone. He calls this universe a feeder universe. Miracle and Fury, watching from high above, are both shocked at this revelation. Heading to the surface of the planet, Miracle says to Fury that he is resolved to fight on behalf of the humans and against the machinations of the New Gods; Fury agrees with him.
