Synopsis for "Rebirth"

On Earth 2, in the battlefields of Russia, Thomas Wayne (Batman II) holds the incapacitated body of his granddaughter, Helena Wayne (Huntress / Famine II), while Lois Lane (Red Tornado) and Val-Zod (Superman II) hold back Kara Zor-El (Power Girl), who is lamenting Helena and Darkseid’s hold over her. She powers through the two, and shouts at Thomas to save her, since he is a doctor. He says that there is an option: he could use the Venom he’d created in the cloning lab, but it could be dangerous. Kara screams that she doesn’t care, she wants her best friend back. Thomas injects the Venom into Helena, and apologizes to her, saying she deserved a better grandfather. A moment later, Helena gasps, reawakened, and then vomits up black liquid. Kara gently holds her, and as Helena weakly recognizes her, Kara jokingly says that she’s cut off of tequila. Lois calls out to Kara, as it is revealed that Death’s child has erupted from her stomach, and proclaims itself the Deathspawn of Apokolips. The rest of the heroes and the Avatars of the Earth (Solomon Grundy, Alan Scott/Green Lantern, Sam Zhao, Azathoth) quickly surround and attack Deathspawn, but their attacks seem to have no effect. Deathspawn says that he isn’t here for the champions, but rather the heart of the planet, and starts to dissolve into the ground. Lois says he couldn’t possibly survive at the planet’s core. Alan clarifies, saying he thinks Deathspawn is after the Parliament of Earth.

Down in the Firepits, in the crypt of Desaad, Big Barda has appeared, and stands over a cowering Desaad. She tells him that he has failed, the Furies are defeated, and the Firepits were destroyed. She scowls that Desaad enjoyed the destruction; he apologizes, but says he found pleasure in the mass suffering of the parademons. She demands why he isn’t asking to be saved, and Desaad responds that Deathspawn is already on the way to the heart of the world, and that he has a gift for Barda: the Protofuries, the strongest made from the destroyed parademons. As the Protofuries appear, she tests the reflexes of one, and finding it sufficient, decides to after the humans who are hiding in the underground tunnels.

Down in Atom’s Haven, the last refuge for Earth 2’s survivors, Commander Sonia Sato and Captain Steel (Henry Heywood, Jr.) overlook the refugees gathered here. Steel laments that they could only save two million, while so many others vanished. Sato remarks that she’s amazed that two million people from all over the world are gathered here and it is peaceful. Steel suggests that the looming threat of global destruction has made other differences seem insignificant. Just then, a woman below them dressed in a niqab cries out for help. A group of men are attacking the woman and her husband, demanding they give up their supplies. Some officers intervene, telling the men to stop, and that they only way to survive is to work together. The group of attackers run away, and the soldiers note that the mens’ eyes were completely white/blank. They think they could be on drugs. Sato and Steel continue their conversation, noting that tensions will rise as supplies dwindle, and Atom’s Haven is a temporary measure. Sato hopes the champions can secure the planet’s surface and the can start to relocate people. Steel says it feels like they are at the mercy of gods at war.

Above the World Army HQ in Amazonia, with Apokolips looming ever closer in the sky, Jimmy Olsen continues to explain his plan to Mister Miracle. Jimmy notes that there are many defense arrays around the Generation Ship, which will make it extremely difficult to retrieve. Miracle, saying that Jimmy was chosen by the Source, says it is urgent that they boom tube there and get the human race off the planet. Jimmy remarks about the true nature of Apokolips, and Miracle says he has seen what will happen next to Earth far too many times. Jimmy says that a boom tube would bring too much attention, and that they need something more discrete. The two fly over to where Mister Terrific is working on a small rocket, which Jimmy says is much less fancy than a boom tube. Terrific retorts that it is the best he can do right now. Miracle questions how they can get the survivors off the planet once they take control of the ship; Jimmy says he doesn’t have the answer, but he knows who does. Dr. Crane approaches, and answers the question: they can remove everyone’s brains and put them in life-support jars! Terrific interjects that people would not want to be saved through that method, and Jimmy asks for another possible solution. Crane proposes lensing, using the multiverse to make a pocket dimension. This gets Mister Terrific thinking.

In China, Hawkgirl (Kendra Munoz-Saunders) and the Flash (Jay Garrick) make their way towards one of the World Army escape tunnels with the emaciated former Fury of Famine. The heroes agreed to help Famine in exchange for information on how to defeat her former sisters. Famine stops, saying she feels the other Furies dying, and their link to Darkseid being severed. She collapses to the ground, dead. Kendra tells Jay they should go back to Atom’s Haven; before they can, they are attacked by a group of Protofuries.

Back in Russia, Lois receives a distress call from the Flash, saying they are being attacked at the Indo-China Tramway to Atom’s Haven. Kara resists leaving Helena, but she tells her to go, and that they’ll find each other later. Thomas stays behind with his granddaughter, while Lois, Kara, and Val fly off.

Arriving at said tramway to Atom’s Haven, Lois radios Jay that they’re here, and the trio immediately come face-to-face with the army of Protofuries. Kara remarks how strong they are, and Val pulls off a piece of the wall to defend the refugees, telling them to follow him. Big Barda taunts the group and Kara is overwhelmed by the protofuries, and cries out to Lois. Lois whips up a huge tornado, shouting that she has already lost her husband and won’t lose her [adopted] daughter, and sends the group of protofuries flying out of the tunnel. Val is impressed, and Lois is winded; Kara mentions that Barda escaped down the tunnel and they should pursue her. Elsewhere down the tunnel, Barda regroups with Desaad, who asks her if she's happy that the humans are fleeing further into Atom’s Haven. She says yes. He asks if the son of Darkseid is pleased, as at that moment Kalibak appears via boom tube, startling Big Barda.
