Synopsis for "Survival"

At the center of Earth 2, in the Parliament Enclave, the Parliament (The White, The Red, The Gray, and The Green) and Alan Scott (Green Lantern) look at the hole that Deathspawn has created in the ground, leading to the core of the planet. Alan wants to stop Deathspawn, but the Green says he needs to go help the other Avatars. The Green was able to heal all except The Blue, who is now defeated, as is Azathoth, its avatar. The Parliament members say that there might be a chance if they combine their powers, and they plan to return Alan to the surface.

In Russia, Alan Scott reappears in front of the other Avatars (Sam Zhao, Solomon Grundy, Yolanda Montez). He tells them that they’re all okay, except the Blue. Sam mentions that he can feel his strength returning. The Parliament speak to all of the Avatars, saying they need to combine their powers and shield the planet against Apokolips. The group flies off.

In the ruins of New York City, Huntress (Helena Wayne) says to her grandfather, Thomas Wayne (Batman II) that it appears Apokolips is firing molten metal at the planet. Thomas says that the building they’re in won’t last long, and tells Helena to hurry with hacking Terry Sloan’s computer for the info, as he radios for their evac. Helena pulls out a gadget that Kara had created for her, plugging it into the computer. As the building starts to shake, their jet arrives, but doesn’t have anywhere to land. Uncertain if the tech worked, she grabs the tech and they jump out the window, firing a grappling hook to latch onto the jet as it flies by, just as the building starts to collapse.

Down in Atom’s Haven, the underground refuge for Earth 2’s survivors, Dick Grayson and Ted Grant walk and talk together. Ted notes the anxiety of the crowds over the evacuation ships; Dick is still concerned with finding the people to whom he gave his son, Johnny, for safety. As they make their way into one of the seedier areas of the haven, they spot Obsidian (Todd Rice) and catch up to him. Ted slams him against the wall, but Obsidian uses his powers to knock them both away. Before he can continue his attack, Jonni Thunder appears and tells him to stop, that they owe him an explanation. Obsidian says that Brainwave (Henry King Jr.) has Johnny Grayson, along with thousands of others, as there is an image of many peoples’ eyes glowing white/blank.

Up at the Lagrange point between Earth 2 and Apokolips, at the TSS Endurance, Mister Miracle and Fury quickly fly towards the airlock, carrying Sandman (Wesley Dodds) and Mister Terrific (Michael Holt). They say they only have seconds to spare. Landing inside and closing the airlock, Miracle says that they didn’t survive. Fury is sadded, saying she thought they were stronger. As the two look on in sadness, the weak voice of Mister Terrific says not to cry just yet. The group hopes that the survivors on the planet below are just as resilient.

Down on Earth, over the Northern Sea, Thomas and Helena fly via jet. Helena explains that the data they stole is corrupted, but it’s a riddle, similar to ones that a villain she and her father had been facing before the initial war with Apokolips. Thomas notes that he is getting exhausted. As they reach their destination - a set of buildings that look similar to oil rigs - the two jump from the jet and land. They put their hands on one of the guard rails, but are poked with small spikes, drawing blood. The building suddenly jolts to life, and a camera appears, saying it has scanned their DNA. Inside, we catch a glimpse of Oliver Queen (Green Arrow), amazed to see a grown-up Helena Wayne.

In the cockpit of the TSS Endurance, Mister Terrific exclaims his frustration at not being able to activate the ship. Miracle says that the controls have been intentionally locked, at which point Terry Sloan (Mister Eight) appears. He remarks that he’s the only one who can unlock the controls, and threatens to expose the ship too soon if the group doesn’t cooperate with him. He reminds them that they need him to save the survivors down on the planet.

In the orbit around Earth, Apokolips has come apart into separate pieces and is slowly enveloping the planet. The Avatars discuss their next step: Alan believes that to combine their powers, it means to absorb all the powers into one of the Avatars. Sam says that Alan needs to be the one to take on their powers. The other two agree with her. Yolanda flies down towards the planet as her power is absorbed into Alan; he agrees, and hopes she’ll get to see the new world, should they all survive. Sam embraces Alan, saying they will always be together now, and the powers of all of the Parliament are absorbed into Alan Scott.
