Synopsis for "Hope"
On Apokolips, Darkseid stands in the throne room with the Nobles (Paternus, Rectifier, Lowest, Arcanis). Rectifier tells him that the Kryptonians have reached the surface, and Arcanis exclaims that the heroes of Earth 2 blasted a hole through Apokolips. Darkseid waves it away, saying Earth is already being consumed by their planet, and these little skirmishes won't matter. As he's boasting, Val Zod (Superman II), Red Tornado (Lois Lane), and Kara Zor-El (Power Girl) burst into the room, saying that Earth is not yet defeated. They will kill him before they'll let him have their planet.
Down in Atom's Haven on Earth, the last refuge of the planet's survivors, Kendra Munoz-Saunders (Hawkgirl) and Jay Garrick (Flash) stand amongst the crowd with Jay's mother. Over the intercom, orders from the World Army instruct the refugees to stay calm, make their way to the ships, and there will be room for everyone. Jay starts to walk his mom onto an evac ship, and Kendra questions him. He says that he needs to make sure she gets on, and doesn't want to let her out of his sight. Kendra responds by saying they need to help everyone. Jay points out that people can take care of themselves, now. He feels he's done enough for the cause, and wants to ensure his family is safe. Kendra scoffs at this, saying he's a coward. Just as he is about to retort, there is a violent rumble, and the ground beneath them starts to crack open. Queen Marella (Aquawoman) appears astride a giant sea serpent, and says that the few surviving Atlanteans ask for help escaping. Jay tries to argue, but Kendra silences him, saying they will make it work.
Nearby in Atom's Haven, Big Barda dashes about, disguised in a monk's robe. She scoffs at the humans trying to escape, but also knows that she is fleeing from Kalibak, as well. She is stopped by another woman in a cloak, K'Li, the fallen Fury of War. They both agree that they need to escape from Earth and live to see another day.
Elsewhere, Thomas contemplates the situation. He knows that he has to ensure Helena stays on the ship and escapes. He recognizes she wants to be with Kara, but he isn't here to play family man - he has to ensure Helena and Oliver survive with the Codex. Seeming to sense his thoughts, Helena reminds him that he has done good, and that's what life is about. Thomas knows that Helena can see the survival of humanity through.
Meanwhile, Dick Grayson and Ted Grant, having recovered Johnny Grayson, make their way through the crowds, trying to get aboard an evac ship. Unfortunately, the Army turns away Dick and Ted, saying that they are reaching capacity, and only taking women and children. Desperate to ensure that his son is safe, Dick finds a woman wearing a cloak, and asks her if she can look after Johnny until they reach a destination, at which point he will reunite with them. The woman - standing next to another girl in a cloak - turns and agrees. Barda takes Johnny into her arms, and says his child will be safe with them, and gives Dick her name. Barda, K'Li, and Johnny Grayson board an evac ship. Dick questions whether he's done the right thing (oblivious to Barda and K'Li's true identities). Over the intercom, Commander Sonia Sato gives the command for the ships to start their evacuation. She then radios to Michael Holt and informs him they are en route to the TSS Endurance - all two million survivors. Up in the Earth/Apokolips orbit, aboard the TSS Endurance, Fury, Mister Terrific (Michael Holt), Terry Sloan (Mister Eight), Sandman (Wesley Dodds), and Mister Miracle are at work in the spaceship. Dodds is amazed by the green light that punctured the surface of Apokolips, and notes that it is the only likely escape route for the survivors on Earth to get to them. Sloan makes a snide remark about the refugees being caught between a rock and a hard place. Miracle doesn't see how they can fit two million people on the vessel. Terrific quiets both of them, saying that their group should be smart enough to come up with some solution. Before they can plan, another beam of green light flashes, headed right for the ship. It crashes into the ship, breaks through the airlock, and the team prepares to fight. A figure rips open the door to the command station, and Alan Scott (Green Lantern) greets them, saying he's there because they have the answer to the problem of getting people off of Earth.
Over in the Court of Apokolips, the Kryptonian duo and Lois set the court apanic, and they quickly put down the nobles, turning to confront Darkseid. Unfazed, Darkseid grabs Val out of the air, ripping off his emblem, and relishing in fighting a Kryptonian. Kara charges at him, but punches her across the face, knocking her aside. With some jeering from the injured nobles, Darkseid tosses aside Val. Kara gets up and mocks him, saying that she is the true superman of the planet he's fighting. She hits him with an uppercut so forceful, it lifts him off of his feet.
