Synopsis for "Gods & Monsters"

In Amazonia, in the World Army Headquarters, Mister Miracle, Big Barda, and Fury break out and head towards Miracle’s Mother Box. After some destruction, Terry Sloan (Mister 08) finally intervenes, calling a cease fire. A bit later, Commander Amir Khan proposes a trade: Miracle’s Mother Box for information on how to infiltrate Apokolips. Barda says there is only one solution.

In Geneva, Huntress (Helena Wayne) and Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) talk with Batman (Thomas Wayne), Red Tornado (Lois Lane-Kent), and Superman (Val-Zod). With the Fury of War (K’Li) having disappeared, they look for something to salvage from the ruins of C.E.R.N. that will allow them to delve into the Fire Pit.

In Dr. Robert Crane’s lab in Amazonia, Mister Miracle and Sloan talk to Crane, whose robot body is beyond repair. He tells the men he’s given the Mother Box to Jimmy Olsen, and it has accepted him. Miracle is surprised that it didn’t kill him outright. Miracle uses the Mother Box to remove any remnants of Bedlam’s mind control from the larger groups’ minds. However, because Fury was so heavily influenced by Bedlam from such a young age, Mother Box doesn’t cleanse her mind. She insists, and a brief altercation between her and Barda occurs, at which point Miracle acquiesces, warning Fury that she may not be pleased with the result of the mind cleanse.

In the Court of Apokolips, the nobles (Paternus, Rectifier, Lowest, Arcanis) discuss their plan with the incarnation of Apokolips. Rectifier warns that the Hornblower (the Oracle’s Herald) approaches, which they agree means the death of a planet, but Apokolips says to not take action. Rectifier mentions it could be either planet that is marked for death. One noble suggests they flee, to which Apokolips responds by immediately killing the noble, saying to run would be the act of a weakling.

Back on Earth, the World Army communicates with Queen Marella (Aquawoman). Marella tells them that Atlantis has fallen; the Fury of Death killed and then raised the citizens of Atlantis as undead, who are now follow her. Marella notes that not all Atlanteans have been killed, and they will seek revenge, even activating their “ultimate weapon.” After, Khan has Major Sonia Sato contact Green Lantern to try and dissuade Marella from escalating things.

In Brazil, Green Lantern (Alan Scott) has defeated the parademons and the Fire Pit there seems to now be inactive. Just as the World Army calls him to have him assist with Atlantis, Solomon Grundy rises from the rubble and attacks him, preventing him from departing.

In Chicago, Barbara Gordon-Grayson and Dick Grayson (and Tommy) fend off scavengers in the refugee camp. Dick gives up some of their rations after one of the men hurts Barbara badly. Barbara is frustrated that she isn’t able to be a cop within the camp, and the World Army has lost control of the situation there. Dick tries to convince her to find others like them who want to help.

Back in Amazonia, in Crane’s lab, Miracle comforts Fury as she remembers everything that Bedlam had hidden: how she is the daughter of Diana (Wonder Woman) and Steppenwolf; how he killed Diana; and how he turned Fury into a tool of war for himself. Miracle cautions Fury, but she says that they should at least make Darkseid pay for the pain both fathers caused their children, since Steppenwolf is dead. They rejoin the larger group, and find Barda asking for warriors to lead the charge to Apokolips. Miracle says that humans wouldn’t be able to handle the trip, even were he to open the Mobius Chamber in the heart of the living planet. Sloan and Mister Terrific say they might have a way.

Meanwhile, at the Fire Pit in Geneva, Val-Zod has modified two World Army power suits to allow Batman and Huntress to join the rest of the group in descending into the fire pit. After hours of descent, they find nothing, and discover that there is molten metal within the pit. They suspect the pits may actually be factories of some sort. Just then, the platform beneath Huntress breaks apart and she starts to fall, only to be caught by Desaad, who had secretly been watching the group!
