Eartha Kitt (b. January 17, 1927 – d.December 25, 2008) was an American actress and singer who portrayed the Catwoman in the final season of Batman, replacing Julie Newmar in the role.

Professional History

Eartha Kitt was an American singer and actress known for her highly distinctive singing style. Beginning her career on Broadway, she became a prolific singer and actress, once being called "the most exciting woman in the world" by Orson Welles. In 1967, she replaced Julie Newmar as the Catwoman on the final season of Batman, gaining her further popularity. She later went on to voice Yzma in The Emperor's New Groove, perhaps her most iconic acting role. Kitt passed away in 2008.

Years after her passing, Kitt's cover of the song "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" was used in the Watchmen episode "This Extraordinary Being", and archive audio of her as Catwoman was used in The Flash.
