Eddie Thawne was a police detective of the Keystone City Police Department and an ancestor of Eobard Thawne, a time-traveling criminal from the 22nd Century known as the Reverse-Flash. After being transferred to the Central City Police Department, Eddie became partnered with detective Joe West and met his daughter Iris, who eventually became his fiancée.
Eddie also became an ally of Team Flash after Barry Allen revealed to him his secret identity as the Flash, but Eddie ended up sacrificing himself to stop the Reverse-Flash, having his body sucked into a wormhole shortly afterwards. Years later, he was resurrected by the Negative Speed Force in 2049 to become its new avatar. He briefly worked as a scientist at Mercury Labs known as Malcolm Gilmore, and later became the supervillain Cobalt Blue using the Cobalt Stone.
Eddie Thawne was created by Greg Berlanti, first appearing in The Flash episode Pilot (2014).
