Quote1 Lies! Lies! Genius is always attacked by fools! They sneered at the man who designed the pyramids -- yet still they stand. Quote2
Edifice K. Bulwark src

As architects go, Edifice K. Bulwark was not unusual. Cranky, prone to verbose language, and self-important; until he was given the powers of the Element Man by Simon Stagg and unleashed his Chemo Skyscraper on the city.

Will The Real Metamorpho Please Stand Up

Bulwark entered into business with Stagg -- who bankrolled the design and construction of the first Chemical Skyscraper. It wasn't just made of chemicals, the building could change purpose and form -- the Metamorpho of skyscrapers. It would be called the Stagg building, and when Metamorpho wouldn't build it, Simon had the solution -- he used the Orb of Ra to turn Edifice into Metamorpho II. Over the course of 2 weeks, Edifice used his new powers to build his masterpiece.

Metamorpho II 001

At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Edifice (as Metamorpho II) basked in the public accolades, until the Chemo Skyscraper began to spin and spew caustic chemicals around the city -- as Bulwark had planned -- in revenge against other architects. Metamorpho returned to the scene and battled Metamorpho II in an elemental stalemate, until Rex rose into space and fell onto the Chemo Skyscraper as a steel meteorite.

Bulwark's building was destroyed and he was returned to his naked human form; feigning amnesia.

Power Loss: Simon Stagg's improvized process to empower Bulwark was only temporary.

Chemical Skyscraper

  • This version of Edifice K. Bulwark, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series. Even though versions of the character may have since appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  • Edifice's transformation into Metamorpho II was facilitated only by the Eye of Ra rather than the original meteorite that transformed Rex Mason; and was only temporary.
  • Though called the second Element Man; Edifice was actually the third; as the first was Algon.
