Edwin Alva is a corrupt super-intelligent billionaire and CEO of Alva Technologies. Using his influence and good public image to commit crime, he is a member of the evil organization S.Y.S.T.E.M.. This position made him mentor to the super-hero Hardware in his secret identity as Curtis Metcalf, although Hardware spent his nights trying to take Alva down. Alva eventually learned his opponent's secret, and coerced him into serving as his enforcer, until his heroic death during Long Hot Summer. Metcalf inherited the company; Alva's son Edwin Alva, Jr. became a member of the new Hard Company, while his daughter Sabrina Alva contested her father's will.
