Eivol Ekdal was the secret inventor of "death-traps" used by world-famous stage magician and escape artist Carnado the Great.
History
Ekdal and Carnado launched a scheme to use a new inescapable death-trap against Batman. They were defeated, captured and sentenced to Gotham State Penitentiary.[1] Ekdal later escaped and no longer associated with Carnado, becoming known as a builder of escape gadgets and traps for the underworld. His reputation drew the attention of the East German crimelord known as the Berlin Butcher, who sought out his services in Gotham City. After Ekdal and the Butcher used Ekdal's death-traps against Batman and Robin, the Butcher turned against Ekdal and had him executed.[2]
