The Elite are a team of metahuman vigilantes who take pride in their brutally violent tactics, believing that the ends justify their means. Their original leader was Manchester Black, with members including Coldcast, the Hat, and Menagerie. They were originally opposed by Superman, who tried to show them that acting like villains in the name of heroism was not the way to make a better world. The team is a direct homage to the Authority in the Wildstorm Universe. The Elite were created by Joe Kelly and Doug Mahnke, first appearing in Action Comics #775. (2001)
