Elizabeth "Betsy" Rose, also known as Betsy Ross, was one of Miss America's sidekicks during World War II alongside her best friend Molly Preacher.
History
Early Life
In 1941, Betsy and Molly's school was saved from a mysterious saboteur by Miss America, one of the first female superheroes. The two best friends, who were outcasts among their peers, were inspired to take up masked identities of their own and find the criminal responsible. They eventually discovered that saboteur, known as The Moth, was planning to destroy the Statue of Liberty. They informed Miss America and helped her foil his scheme. Impressed by their courage, Miss America gave them each a magical artefact to give them powers of their own, in Betsy's case a spool of thread owned by the real Betsy Ross, which she used to fashion a stars-and-stripes cape. Throughout World War II, Besty and Molly helped Miss America defend New York City from criminal and fifth columnists. They both disappeared on September 2, 1945, the day the war ended. Mister Terrific and his sidekick Quiz Kid attempted to find out where they had disappeared to, but they failed and Quiz Kid himself vanished during the investigation.
For years after her disappearance, Besty's younger brother Johnny searched for the origins of the relics that gave Betsy and Molly their powers, hoping to become a costumed hero himself.[1]
The Thirteen
Betsy and Molly were among the thirteen heroes and villains who were erased from history when Barry Allen and Doctor Manhattan altered the timeline. The Time Masters preserved them by placing them in stasis pods in the Time Lab.[1][2] Per Degaton's meddling in the timeline caused the pods to fail and they were reintegrated back into history before the timeline was fully restored.[3]
Lost Children
A "time scavenger" known as The Childminder captured Betsy and many other forgotten sidekicks of Golden Age heroes before they could be fully restored to their proper place in history. They were imprisoned on Orphan Island, an uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean outside the normal flow of time.[1][4] The sidekicks managed to defeat the Childminder and her employer, an adult version of Corky Baxter, with the help of Stargirl, Red Arrow and Hourman. During the fight, Childminder was hit with a burst of temporal energy and was de-aged into an egg.
As they could not be returned to their proper places in time, Hourman transported them to the present, where they became known as the Young Justice Society. Betsy and Molly carried Childminder's egg back with them.[5]
