The original character was created by Robert Bernstein and Kurt Schaffenberger and first appeared in Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #13.
• Ellen Lane was portrayed by Phyllis Coates for the character's first appearance. The role was taken over by Beverly Garland for the character's later appearances in the series.
