Ellen Yin is a detective with the Gotham City Police Department. She was one of the first allies The Batman made during his career.
History
Previously head of her department in Metropolis, Yin transferred to Gotham looking for new challenges.
Upon arriving in Gotham, Yin developed a difficult relationship with Batman in both his crime-fighting persona and his alter-ego Bruce Wayne. She swore to bring the Bat to justice and dismissed Wayne as a spoiled, arrogant playboy.
When her partner Ethan Bennett was transformed into the monster Clayface, Yin was disappointed to lose one of her closest friends. Yin and Batman eventually put their differences aside to try and bring Clayface to justice.
Upon the mission's conclusion, Batman gave Yin a communicator and the invitation to call him whenever he was needed. Keeping the commlink, Yin called Batman her "new partner".
When a mission to apprehend the Riddler went south, Rojas stripped Yin of her badge. Rojas then used Yin as bait to recapture the Riddler; in order to impress the new police commissioner, Jim Gordon. Batman helped Yin escape from Rojas' plot and the two worked together again to take down the Riddler, Penguin and the Joker. Impressed by Yin's hardwork, Gordon demanded that Rojas reinstate her, much to his anger.
In the year 2027, Yin became the new police commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department.[1]
