Take it from me: there's no such thing as being alive too long. There's always something new.

Jacob Marlowe is a billionaire philanthropist who leads the HALO Corporation.
History
Jacob Marlowe's exact past is unclear. Publicly, he is the billionaire head of the HALO Corporation, who engages in philanthropy. He claims to be at least a hundred years old, but does not make that public.[1] He is connected in some fashion to an alien spaceship which crash-landed on Earth at the dawn of human civilization. After crashing, a faction of the crew decided that the best use of their resources was to uplift human technology so that they could survive extinction-level events.[2]
In the service of that mission, Jacob has assembled a roster of unique people who have no home in the wider world, starting with John Colt and Kenesha. In 1986 he found Adrianna Tereshkova, a Russian Skywatch astronaut who was drastically changed by surviving a failed hyperdrive test flight.[3] In 2007,[4] he provided shelter to Cole Cash, an I.O. gunman who needed to fake his death.[3] And throughout, he used the HALO Corporation to push The Main Project: to introduce new technology and save the future.
Everyone Is Looking Up
After Jacob's efforts to sell private solar panels were deemed harmful to the general good, I.O. sent an assassin to kill him. However, the assassin tripped a secret alarm for "xenobiological" lifeforms, and then demonstrated the ability to dissolve a personal defense device built into Jacob's arm, causing an explosion which threw Jacob from the building.
Jacob was rescued, however, by a woman in a flying suit of armor. Assembling his underlings, he sent them to find and rescue this woman, as the forces they were opposing were sure to come for her, as her technology was evidence of hidden science.[1]
Meeting the woman again, he formally introduced himself to her, and told her about the secret agencies that ruled from the shadows, about his secret past, and about his own alien biology. He asked her to join his work, and she agreed.[3]
