Quote1 You forget. I am a Duke of Hell. Merlin's mischief and the eternal rock might have taken their toll. But what good is a demon who bears not a sinner's soul? Quote2
Etrigan src

Etrigan was a powerful demon, bound to Detective Chimp. Despite an initial contract against doing so, he eventually helped the Justice League Dark fight back the armies of Merlin.

When Damian Wayne travelled into Hell to try and find his father's soul, Etrigan the Demon found him, and taught him to fend for himself against the hordes of the damned.[1]

In the early days of Merlin's war against the forces of magic, he managed to separate Etrigan and his original host, Jason Blood. Capturing Blood, Merlin made Etrigan promise to not interfere with his plan's. Etrigan agreed, and was forced to watch from his new host, Detective Chimp, as Merlin slaughtered wizards, angels, and demons of all kinds.[2][3]

Etrigan became known in the surviving magic community as a betrayer, with many blaming him for the destruction. With Detective Chimp working with Zatanna against Merlin, Etrigan was begrudgingly dragged along. He advised them, and gave them whatever aid he felt his contract allowed, but refused to truly interfere.[2] When the heroes encountered Doctor Fate, the powerful mage revealed that Jason was not in captivity, but instead, had been killed by Merlin. With this knowledge, the chimp was able to convince Etrigan to enter the battle, and the battle began to immediately shift in their favor. However, Etrigan was soon confronted by Merlin's "Blood Knight", who revealed himself to be Jason Blood. Fate had lied, as he knew Etrigan entering the battle would lure Merlin out. To save the lives of Etrigan and his allies, Fate sacrificed himself to Merlin, agreeing to serve as his oracle.[3]

Millenia later, in the 853rd Century, Etrigan dwelled within the Tower of Fate. He aided the Quintessence in their battle against Unkindness.[4]
