Synopsis for "Atomic Nights"
After Ronnie Raymond spontaneously regained his Firestorm powers,[1] Martin Stein appears from deep space. His powers have greatly amplified and he has an inability to empathize with the humans whom he almost kills with his wild nuclear fire. The League saves innocent bystanders and Raymond convinces his former partner to restrain himself. He reveals that he has leukemia and his treatment has brought out these powers. Stein suggests that the two merge into the Firestorm Matrix again to cure him but Raymond would be submerged to Stein's will.
The two continue their discussion in deep space where Stein explains that the secrets and vastness of the universe make human concerns petty and irrelevant. If the two merge again, Raymond would be able to understand and they could study the universe forever. He chooses to retain his humanity, even if it means being mortal.
Stein is disappointed but the interaction reminds him of his former humanity. He heals Raymond of his illness and disappears again. Captain Atom asks him to join his Justice League and Firestorm agrees.
