Fausta Grables was a Nazi agent sent to the US to kidnap Wonder Woman.

History

Fausta was a Swiss national who sided with Nazi Germany in the war. She was sent by Adolf Hitler to apprehend Wonder Woman. Learning of the Amazon's Mental Radio, she set out to interview her allies. Stealing a reporter's press card, she weaseled her way into War Department offices as Rory Blank of the Daily Tab. Lt. Prince kept mum, suspecting Blank to be an Axis agent, but Major Trevor talked at length to the reporter.

Grables sent her agents to steel Diana Prince's Mental Radio from her apartment, as well as Etta Candy's in Holliday College. Steve Trevor arrived home late and was overcome by the Nazi agents. Fausta lured Wonder Woman to an abandoned house, but the trap couldn't hold her. Reporting her failure to her superior, Herr Spader, she conceived of a new plan.

Tapping Steve Trevor's phone, she managed to located Wonder Woman's apartment. She stole her costume from the laundry and set up a new trap: performing at a USO meet as "the Masked Marvel", the world's strongest woman. She used faked tricks to appear strong, and fought an accomplice in the ring. Diana wanted to challenge her, but without her costume, she infiltrated backstage instead. In the ring, the two fought, but Wonder Woman was undone when she became entangled in her own lasso. Fausta seized the opportunity to take over and switch costumes.

She smuggled Wonder Woman back to her superiors, who prepared to ship her to Germany. Even without her Mental Radio, Wonder Woman could still send out a telepathic message to her mother, who called in the Holliday Girls and US Army to apprehend the spy ring.

• This version of Fausta Grables, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022–2023.
