History

Following his departure from the Legends to find a new mission in life, Rip Hunter went to 2012 and collaborated with the US government to use his knowledge of time travel and future technology to found a new organization to protect the timeline. The result was a long five years of building up the Time Bureau, who were immediately sent to deal with the huge mess of anachronisms spit accross the timeline thanks to the Legends literally breaking time in their final battle with the Legion of Doom. The Bureau forced Sara Lance, Mick Rory, Nate Heywood, Ray Palmer, Jefferson Jackson, Martin Stein and Amaya Jiwe to retire from their time travel escapades, claiming the waverider (and therefore Gideon). Unfortunately, due to the Justice Society of America having been disbanded shortly after Amaya joined the Legends, she was forced to return to her home country in the 1940s to continue her life (as there was no way to revive Hourman and Nate couldn't go with her.

The Legends later got back together after finding out that time was in danger that the Bureau couldn't see coming. So a tense, symbiotic relationship with the Legends and the Bureau began. The increasing numbers of anachronisms was due to Nora Darhk carrying out the will of the time demon Mallus; time needed to be weakened enough by the changes and threat of breaking in order to open the prison realm Mallus was trapped in.
