- The only way I survive is to think of light. Of heart. Of something different from this life we live. Of dancing.
- — Aurelie
Synopsis for "Nevertheless, She Persisted"
With Beautiful Dreamer captured, Granny Goodness orders her to put the Female Furies into a dream so they can reignite the fury within Aurelie. The dream shows the furies their greatest desire; Lashina ran the furies, Mad Harriet solved the Anti-Life Equation, and Big Barda was in the bath with a man she didn't recognise and a baby.
Aurelie managed to escape Dancer's control, and Dancer uses this as an opportunity to convert her to the New Gods. Aurelie is led to the chamber where Granny Goodness has Dancer trapped, and the two manage to escape - they go looking for Himon. When Granny reawakens she rallies the Furies to hunt down the two defectors but she is summoned to Darkseid who reveals that his adopted son, Scott Free has been seen with Himon.
At Himon's Refuge, Dancer returns to the Forever People but the Furies break in and recapture Aurelie, dragging her back kicking and screaming. Barda comes face to face with Scott who manages to escape her tight grasp and disappears with Himon.
Aurelie is handed back over to Willik who violently tortures her by making her wear long boots that are molten hot, and then making her dance until she collapses and her legs need amputation. Barda storms past Willik and finds Aurelie dying on the floor.
They hold a funeral but as they lower the coffin, a voice appears from behind Barda inviting her to escape with Scott.
