History

Although this is the instrument that Bowen commonly used as the focus of his powers, his first violin was actually a custom made device, similar in design to a classic Stradivarius, but constructed from crude materials in a prison cell in India. During the 1940s, the Fiddler used his first Fiddle as a tool by which to hypnotize his victims, as well as produce violent bursts of sonic energy. Invariably, his crime sprees were always foiled by the Flash, and the fiddle was confiscated. The Fiddler eventually regained possession of this instrument and used it for further acts of villainy.

When his nemesis the Flash came out of retirement, he destroyed Bowin's fiddle by smashing it over his fists, binding his arms together as a pair of makeshift handcuffs.[1] In later years, the Fiddler crossed swords with the super-hero team Infinity, Inc., at which time, he began using a genuine Stradivarius (though he still referred to it as a fiddle) that he acquired in London. Just prior to the Infinite Crisis event, the Fiddler's Secret Six colleague Deadshot assassinated Bowen for his failure against the team's adversaries the H.I.V.E. Bowen's violin was passed down to his successor Virtuoso. A descendent of the Fiddler named Iowa Bowen used a instrument similar in function to the Fiddler's fiddle, but was in fact a guitar.[citation needed]
