The Fiend With Five Faces is a giant formed by the union of the last five Gods of Oceania.

Millennia ago, when humanity was still in its infancy and the gods of Oceania lived their idyll on an island in the Pacific Ocean, violent climate changes heralding the last ice age on Earth destroyed their home. In order to endure, Tangora the wise suggested that they unite as a single being more powerful than each of them individually; although they hesitated because they valued their individuality, the other gods (Rongo, Tane, Ku and Mauri) agreed and they formed the Fiend With Five Faces. Even with the island sunk, the gods remained, although they had to sleep for centuries to preserve their strength, allowing themselves to awaken once every millennium to regain lost strength and enjoy their much-needed individuality for a lunar interval (a period of 14 days). The gods, except Tangora, forget the other times they have awakened because the memory is painful, and so for the four of them it is as if it were always the first time since their island sank.[1]
