History

In ancient times, it was one of the most important Greek city-states, having been mythically founded by the Attic hero Theseus, who was also its first king.

Athens has been the scene of many wars throughout its history, such as the war against the Amazons after the stealing of Hippolyta's Golden Girdle by Hercules and Theseus, which resulted in the death of Antiope[1], Hippolyta's sister and Theseus's wife, and in the separation of the Themysciran and the Bana Amazons; and in the modern era the World War II.[2]

Its most characteristic construction is the Parthenon, on the Acropolis, a temple dedicated to the goddess Pallas Athena. The city also has the Areopagus hill, which exists both on the physical plane and in a sub-dimension like Mount Olympus, and is home to the war god Ares.
