Synopsis for "The Long Payback, Part Five"
As Stalker gives Terry back the favor, saving his life, Payback is holding Melanie hostage, transmitting on television what he's doing to her: this leads Terry to trigger a teleportation device that takes into a sealed pool where the criminal prepared all sorts of weapons to kill him, from being underwater to lasers and sonars. Payback wants Batman to die while he kills Ten of Hearts and Gotham burns: he's happy to let Batman see someone he loves killed and taken by him, just like Gotham and the Dark Knight himself took the life of the innocent Kenny Stanton.
Something does not add up: both Matt and Bruce are perplexed by the fact that Kenny himself should be behind the mask of Payback. And Bruce discovers they were right: bullied and tortured in the reformatory by older kids, Kenny took his life and behind the mask of Payback is Gray Stanton, his father, looking for payback just like his alias. As Terry is looking death in the face, Matt decides to take the mantle of Robin and go helping him after revealing he trained watching videos of Damian, with Bruce accepting this being the only solution: he will guide Matt in his first experience as the Boy Wonder.
