Batman: The Brave and the Bold #5 is an issue of the series Batman: The Brave and the Bold (Volume 1) with a cover date of July, 2009.

Synopsis for "The Case of the Fractured Fairy Tale!"

Batman pursues the Key through a museum, confident that every possible escape route has been sealed. Nevertheless, the Key almost manages to escape - until a World War II tank display, purportedly "haunted" by the ghost of a Civil War general, inexplicably blocks his path.

Later, Batman finds that the Queen of Fables has magically erected her own kingdom - complete with forest and tower - and lured dozens of children inside, imprisoning them so she can use their tears to rejuvenate her youth. As the Caped Crusader invades the kingdom, he finds himself joined by Captain Marvel, whose might has already made short work of several of the Queen's minions; to their dismay, however, they find a magical barrier around the Queen's tower, completely impassable to any adult.

After a moment's thought, Captain Marvel transforms into Billy Batson, and successfully enters the tower. When caught by the Queen, he transforms again, using Shazam's mystic thunderbolt to shatter the Queen's barrier. Nonplussed, the Queen uses her spellbook to transform Captain Marvel into a savage dragon, controllable by her alone.

Faced with this dragon, Batman fearlessly charges - much to the Queen's amusement, until she realizes his real target is her spellbook. In seconds, the Caped Crusader throws the book into the dragon's fiery breath, completely destroying it along with its mistress.
