Synopsis for "Lessons"

Inside a jail, Batman interrogates Professor Sven Svenson, an inmate convicted for a crime he didn't commit. Just then, they are interrupted by some men looking to torment Svenson. Batman subdues them easily, while the professor begs to be let out. Apparently, Svenson was a brilliant professor of law at Gotham State University for fifteen years, until he was convicted of murdering mob boss Billy Chang, with an eyewitness present at the scene.

At GCPD Headquarters, Commissioner Gordon assures Batman that Svenson is guilty. However, Batman is still suspicious and takes Batgirl to visit the eyewitness, Pieter Danner of Danner Shipping. At a wealthy estate, Danner admits to being threatened by the now-dead mob boss Gino Tiavolli to lie about the murder.

Later in the Batcave, an unconvinced Batman decides to dig deeper and find out what Professor Svenson's students thought of him. On campus, Batgirl goes undercover and learns that Svenson was well-regarded and was going to run for office, motivating Tiavolli to frame him.

At Danner's office, Batman discovers that he recently gained an affluent business partner, leading him to someone who keeps tabs on everyone, Jimmy King. When Batman and Batgirl visit him, they find out that Svenson killed Billy in order to take over his territory, having known all about organized crime. Back at Danner's residence, he confesses that it was Svenson who threatened him and kept him under guard. Batman then expresses his disappointment in Svenson, who is later laughed at by fellow inmates for trying to outsmart the World's Greatest Detective.
