History

Designed by the evil genius DeSaad, the device is sometimes termed a "planet-killer". It recongifures a targeted environment, altering its physical state into a wholly new form. 3,500 years ago, a rogue Parademon stole such a weapon from Darkseid's Great Armory, and escaped with it to the planet Earth via Boom-Tube. Landing in Egypt, the Parademon used it as a bartering tool with the reigning Pharaoh, Hath-Set. Hath-Set accepted the weapon and ordered the Parademon to be executed. Hath-Set placed the Gizmoid inside of a Canopic jar where it remained for thousands of years. In recent times, the jar came into the possession of Kendra Saunders, acting curator of the Stonechat museum. Hath-Set, reincarnated in the body of a young girl, tracked the urn containing the device and stole it from the museum. Kendra changed into her costumed identity of Hawkgirl and gave chase, rorcing Hath-Set to flee into the street. St. Roch detective Henri Doucette accidentally struck the girl's body with his car, and the Gizmoid was temporarily lost. From the Apokoliptan armory, Bernadeth of the Female Furies learned of the missing planet-killer, and mounted an operation to Earth in order to retrieve it.

The Gizmoid imprinted itself upon Kendra Saunders and altered its physical composition in order to dupliate Kendra's form and powers. It even appropriated her Nth Metal wings. As a robotic template of Hawkgirl, the Gizmoid began to lay siege to St. Roch. Hawkgirl was forced to team up with the Female Furies in order to defeat it. By implementing sound strategy and teamwork, they were able to incapacitate the device. Hawkgirl's tenacity and skill earned her the respect of Fury leader Bernadeth.
