Synopsis for "Private Lives"

The Challengers of the Unknown investigate a killer who seemingly has no modus operandi. Marlon is reluctant to take the case until he sees that one of the victims has become catatonic and is gripping a severed limb of a loved one.

Clay is elsewhere reliving a car crash he had years ago and violently confronting a woman on the street and beats a man. He runs away to his family. He gets into confrontations in his hometown bar and at a mine until Del Colter—the first man whom Clay violently slashed in the street—tracks him down to explain that he is possessed. Clary murders a man in the mine and goes to his childhood home to kill his mother but decides she isn't worth sullying his hands.

Somehow, the rest of the Challengers also track down a different Clay who is also violently opposed to them and tries to kill his teammates. The Clay confronted by the Challengers is temporarily brought out of his rage and a creature flies out of his mouth. Del appears and captures it in a jar, explaining that it is an aspect of a human soul let loose, made up of rage and terror. It has inhabited Clay but he takes the creature so that it cannot pester him anymore.
