Synopsis for "Combat, Part 1"
Moscow. The Soviet Government has turned Kara and Kortni into propaganda devices. Kara is now Supergirl, "the wonder of the Soviet science", and Kortni Stargirl, the wielder of the Cosmic Staff, designed by "comrade Ipati Dugin, the Stargirl's distinguished father".
Both girls bitterly note that the announcer neglected to mention that their father was kicked out of the cosmonaut program for suspected sedition, and was living in exile when their mother met him. Later, Kara and Kortni's father taught them science, and their mother legends and folktales. They would not want that their daughters were turned into the State's puppets and regarded as something more than human.
Kara and Kortny know that and are disgusted at the way they have been turned into propaganda tools, but their parents will stay alive as long as they "behave". Mainly Kara hates the notion of "behaving" and being obedient.
Still their unwillingness to kill and their insistence on disabling and capturing the enemy drives their squad leader mad. Their commanding officer orders them to obliterate an enemy camp. But Supergirl's super-hearing reveals their target is not a Nazi camp, but a Soviet prison.
Neither Supergirl nor Stargirl can allow the slaughter of innocents, and they turn on their squad. They drive the Night Witches off, but now they know General Arkayn intended to use them as weapons to obliterate political dissidents, and disguise it as propaganda. Sickened, they defect.
London. Arkham Ward. Doctor Harleen Quinzel is treating one of her patients, an ex-colleague that suffers from awful nightmares. She dreams of London overrun with humanoid, shadow monsters, and a long-toothed, laughing man whispering a message for Harley: "Come find me." When she hears those words, Harleen goes nuts and turns into Harley Queen.
Greece. Wonder Woman splits their time between fighting Nazis and helping Steve Trevor pull himself together. After a mission, war prisoners are brought back to the camp; and the American commanding officer wants them gunned down immediately. Wonder Woman interferes, declaring war prisoners must face trial. The American soldiers move in on her.
