Chief Ames sends Sandra off on vacation, so she catches a steamship to Florida. At the pier she by chance meets her friend Michael, who turns out to be a high society reporter, on an assignment to Florida. An obnoxious drunk staggers by, singing "Sweet Adeline", and he shows up again that evening in the dining salon. After dinner Michael and Sandra go dancing in the ship's ballroom, but there is a sudden commotion: a wealthy celebrity's expensive diamond necklace has been stolen!

This story is reprinted from More Fun Comics #29.

Aboard the steamship from New York to Florida, Baroness von Schmidt's expensive necklace has been stolen. The captain complies with her angry demands for everybody present to be searched. This proves fruitless. Meanwhile the rude drunk man from dinner is also still around, only much more sober.

Sandra and Michael do some snooping around and find the Baron in his stateroom, being threatened by the fake drunk guy and one accomplice, in a dispute about some stolen jewelry that turns out to be fake. Michael slips and falls; the bad guys rush out and catch him, while both Sandra and the Baron quietly leave the scene. The bad guys abduct Michael, but Sandra figures his danger is less immediate, and follows the Baron.

Sam tells his friend a story of the time he got robbed at gunpoint, and his aversion for the time of noon or midnight since then. He was tried to plead for his life but the gunman told him to stop putting his hands at the 6 o'clock position and start putting them in the 12 o'clock position.

Synopsis for Dr. Occult, the Ghost Detective: "Vampire Venom"

This story is reprinted from More Fun Comics #28.

Police Detective Captain Vin Ellsworth calls in his friend Doctor Occult, the Ghost Detective, on a murder case that involves vampires. Several evenings later, after the most recent victim has been buried, Ellsworth and Occult hide in the cemetery's bushes, watching his grave. Occult spots "the figure of the corpse and a bat-man!" Ignoring Occult's warning, Ellsworth fires uselessly at the vampires with his pistol; they swoop to attack him. Occult whips out his mystic symbol and the vampires flee, each diving back into his own grave. Ellsworth and Occult observe which graves those are, dig them up, expose the vampires, and drive stakes through their chests, with Ellsworth complaining the whole time about how horrible it all is.

Hanko enters a rodeo, but he doesn't do very well. Nevertheless, he's given a booby prize, a shining cup full of money. But Hanko is stopped before leaving, there's been a mistake, the real booby prize was a wooden horse.

This story is reprinted from More Fun Comics #28.

Jeff Roberts and Captain Dennis instigate a small-scale slave riot and make an escape from their new owner's armed servants by sneaking into his large house. Captain Dennis has brought along the whip with which he was being worked over, just before the melee began, and when they are discovered, he wields it in a fight with a swordsman. Jeff Roberts' throwing arm again decides the contest, as he knocks out the slave-owning merchant with a hurled metal incense holder. More swordsmen are on their way, so they flee the building via a second-story balcony and some tree limbs, to get over the courtyard wall. They drop on an unguarded side of the compound, and within an hour are back in the city, searching for the window where they last saw Jean. They find it; Jeff whistles; Jean appears at the barred window.

Captain Dennis and young Jeff Roberts have escaped from their new owner and now are in teeming Shanghai, finding Jean, and promising her that she also shall be free, that very night. Dennis and Roberts then find a hiding place, wait until dark, then sneak into a Chinese temple. Inside, a worshipper is lighting devotional firecrackers. They steal as many firecrackers as their pockets can pack, then hurry back, unobserved, to the house holding Jean, then climb to a balcony and work along a ledge around the wall to an open window, and get inside. They find a large courtyard and several armed guards, whom they are able to panic and send fleeing with the flung firecrackers.

A huge black form has hurled the dead watchman into the room, and slides rapidly away. Mark unholsters his Electro-Ray Pistol and shoots at it, with no effect. The immense silhouette waves mockingly, shrieks with laughter, and vanishes. The dead watchman, before being flung thru a closed window, had been killed by the same means as Lord Greystone. Gail Hillary runs in to the room, frantic with terror. She has just encountered a towering cloaked figure, in fact she sideswiped it with her Giro Car, knocking him down. Marson and Montague race outside to check on this.

As Johnnie snoops around the beer joint, someone pulls a gun on him, he fights, but is conked unconscious with a pistol butt in the end. The gangsters take Johhnie for a ride, but he wakes up and manages to force the car off a bridge and escape. He heads back to the beer joint and overhears the gangsters report to their boss Donati that they must scram, as Johnnie got away and the place will surely be swarmed with cops in no time. So Johnnie jumps in his car ready to tail them.

Donati and his gang arrive to their destination, a derelict building, with Johnnie hot on their trail. Donati asks Bugs, another gangster, for a safe haven, and Bugs agrees on the condition that Donati helps him with a large shipment that night. Johnnie, who overheard the whole thing, reports back to his chief, and a sting is set up. A gunfight breaks out during the sting, and Bugs is arrested in the end. Donati however, is nowhere to be seen. Bugs tries to convince the cops that Donati's body fell into the river, but Johnnie doesn't buy it.

Synopsis for Jack Woods: "The Horse Thief, Part 1 (of 2)"

This story is reprinted from More Fun Comics #28.

In a south western town in New Mexico, the hanging of an accused horse thief is about to take place. The accused, Jepson, pleads that he is innocent but no one listens. The jailers and Jepson leave town on horseback, before arriving to a gnarled tree where the lynching will take place' it's affectionally called "The Hangman." The noose is slid on and cinched up, and the lynch mob leader is ready to act, when suddenly a precise gunshot snaps the rope. Jepson makes a break for freedom on horseback while the crowd runs for cover. He is pursued by a lone rider, revealed to be Jack Woods, who does not approve of this whole business, and who now wants to deal with the man himself.

After making sure to lose their pursuers by hiding behind a rock, Woods asks the man to tell his story. Jepson tells him that there were a series of horse thief lynchings around this part of the county, but his ranch never had any problems with that. Then suddenly three of the stolen horses were found in his corral, and he was arrested. Jepson claims he was set up, and believes a man named Sam James was trying to get him killed. Sam was a former business partner of Jepson's, who was heartbroken when his crush married Jepson, and had soon started squandering money that belonged to Jepson. Jack Woods tells Jepson he'll help him get to the bottom of this.

At the Larsen Lumber Co. logging camp, a movie crew is shooting some scenes, featuring child movie-star Yvonne Darling, who is just a snotty little monster and is mean to everybody. Cameramen and lumberjacks alike hate her right back. When she's mean to Little Linda, Linda just makes excuses for her. But the next day, when Yvonne proves yet again to be too difficult to work with, and a potentially dangerous stunt is involved, the producers hire Little Linda, as a stunt double for Miss Darling.

Marty McCann has just punched out Pete Marko, and gets some good advice, and a hailed taxi, from Bradley Reynolds; they leave the Fight Club very quickly. They speed over to the Athletic Club, where Brad introduces Marty to his Dad, an amateur boxer, who introduces them to Boris, the Russian Lion, his boxer-in-training. Boris is a body builder and former wrestler; Marty has some zingers about both categories of fighters. Mr. Reynolds is inspired; he'll organize a boxer-versus-wrestler bout, featuring these two, and sell a ton of tickets!

When Pete Marko hears about his, he puts in a bid to promote the match; neither Mr. Reynolds nor McCann want anything to do with him so they turn it down. But Boris eagerly hires on with Marko, and promises to put McCann into the hospital!

Synopsis for Marty McCann: "Pete Marko, Part 3 (of 3)"

This story is reprinted from More Fun Comics #28.

The night of the big match between Marty the Boxer and Boris the Wrestler comes around. The referee lays out the rules, and they begin. Marty hits him, then misses him, then is grabbed by Boris, and wrenched around severely for several minutes. It goes back and forth for quite a while, until Boris gets flustered and starts kicking. The Ref calls foul, and Boris twirls the Ref over his head and flings him out of the ring! The fight resumes, then the lights go out; somebody shoots Boris; a pistol is tossed into the ring to land right in front of Marty McCann; the lights come back on. With his boxing glove on, Marty stupidly picks up the gun, but it's obvious to all observers that he couldn't have fired it. Pete Marko and his gunman Blackie see from their ringside seats that their frame-up won't work, and depart, but are blocked from leaving by two burly cops, who frisk them both, and find the smoking handgun. Marko is arrested, but McCann asks the cops to release him in his custody, and despite his prior series of arrests they go along with that. Marko is very surprised by this development, but McCann seemingly just wants to help out.

Synopsis for "Hanko the Cowhand"

This story is reprinted from More Fun Comics #29.

Hanko's two friends joke and incite Hanko to try to catch a jack rabbit with a lasso. Hanko jumps on his horse and sets off to find a rabbit. When he sees one, he throws a lasso around the neck to the protestations of the rabbit. Infuriated, the rabbit pulls on the leash and runs all the way back to his rabbithole with Hanko holding on to the rope for dear life. Eventually the rabbit makes his way inside the nest, and Hanko gets stuck headfirst in the small hole, to the laughter of the rabbit family, who kick him in the shin.

Synopsis for Dr. Occult: "The Spectral Killer"

This story is reprinted from More Fun Comics #29.

As he is about to be electrocuted, convicted murderer Ed Murphy vows revenge on every spectator in the room. Several days later, Sergeant Ellsworth tells Doctor Occult that several of the spectators have been murdered. Occult tries to think of a plan, but by the time he retires to bed that night, none has come. Suddenly, Murphy's spirit appears and tries to strangle Occult, but Occult manages to grab his mystic symbol and sever Murphy's connection to the material world.
