Synopsis for "The Terror of the Talismans"

Looking to rid himself of superhuman competition--Green Lantern and the Harlequin--a gangster sneaks forged notes to each of them, that their rival's challenging them to operate without their respective power item. Harlequin gives her spectacles to Alan Scott, and coming out of the latest radio broadcast of his adventures, Green Lantern gives his ring to Molly Mayne. Back in their secret identities, they go down to the basement to get new supplies for the sound effects on the Green Lantern show, only to run into the gangsters who gun them down and take the two power items off their bodies.

The gang dumps the bodies into crates and throws them off a bridge, and then just by showing off the purloined power items, are able to intimidate anyone they meet into getting out of their way during robberies. Meanwhile, the crates shatter when they hit the river and an unharmed Alan and Molly are freed. Alan having managed to use Harlequin's spectacles to create an illusion that was what the gangsters really shot at, with the real people only playing possum. Both slip away and change to their costumed identities. As they're wondering how to track down the thieves, some of the criminals run by terrorizing people, and they grab the one at the rear, who's so scared to see Green Lantern and Harlequin in one place he spills his guts that the gang's going to rob the World's Treasures Exhibition. Harlequin confronts the gang, claiming the spectacles they have are fake, and they challenge her to create one of her illusions. Green Lantern supplies one, making the replica Parthenon behind the criminals appear to be falling on them by using a winch that was being used to dismantle the building already. They find the mastermind of the gang atop a replica Sphinx, who turns out to be the sound effects guy on Green Lantern's radio show. The hero recovers his ring, but Harlequin's already escaped by the time Green Lantern notices she's gone.

Synopsis for "Beauty and the Fool"

The Fool, once again on the loose, starts stealing boxes of Pop Jacks candy. This baffles Green Lantern, until he learns from the head of the company that makes the candy that five diamond bracelets worth $5000 apiece were hidden in boxes in place of the usual cheap prizes, and the Fool's gotten them all. Meanwhile, cooking columnist Ann Martin, looking to work her way up to the crime beat, tracks the Fool. He knocks her and Green Lantern both out and puts them in a deathtrap with model trains with poison needles on them. Lantern uses his ring on the switchbox to crash the trains before any of them can fall victim.

Following up on a clue that the Fool needed to visit a barber before his next crime took place, Lantern deduces he plans to look his best before he robs a beauty contest. The Fool does indeed steal the pearl-spangled tiara being awarded to the winner, but Lantern catches up to him and knocks out the comical criminal before he can get away. Ann Martin gets her promotion for her dynamic story on the Fool's latest escapade.
