Green Lantern (Volume 3) #39 is an issue of the series Green Lantern (Volume 3) with a cover date of May, 1993.

Synopsis for "Life Forces"

Green Lantern and Adam Strange confront the possessed Olivia Reynolds on Qward. Hal attempts to probe her mind with his ring, but Olivia seizes control of him by casting doubts on his mind and enslaving him, leaving Strange alone to confront her. Suddenly, the Lenglyns start talking to Adam through his daughter, Aleea. The Lenglyns explain that they used Aleea to stop the Qwardians from accessing Olivia's U-Mind.

While enslaved, Hal discovers that his first encounter with the Ergono power affected his mind, lacerating his will with doubt and indecision. Hal figures out that, to escape, he has to let his mind flow away and slip into Olivia. When Olivia is about to absorb Hal's mind, Aleea projects a giant image of herself to fight her. Olivia drops Hal, and he breaks free from his bonds. Joining his power with Aleea's, Hal defeats the possessed Olivia and brings her true self back.

Green Lantern promises the Lenglyns that he'll look after Olivia's safety and make sure that she's never aware of the U-Mind. Back on Earth, Hal makes up his mind about Carol's marriage proposal, and he decides that he can't have a life with her. Instead, he wants to have a future with Olivia.
