Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #39 is an issue of the series Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen (Volume 1) with a cover date of September, 1959.
Synopsis for "The Super-Lad of Space!"
During a televised missile launch, Jimmy Olsen stows away aboard the rocket that is about to be thrown into space by Superman. The thrown rocket lands on the distant planet Zolium, where to Jimmy's surprise he has been endowed with super-powers the same as Superman. Deciding that he will become a super hero like Superman, Jimmy dubs himself Superlad and puts on the disguise to conceal his Jimmy Olsen identity.
However, when he comes across some Zoliums riding horses they greet him by his name, to which he considers a fluke. Walking to a major city, Jimmy spots meteors about to crash down upon it and changes into his Superman costume and saves the day, publicly introducing himself as Superlad. With the threat of the meteors over, Superlad is thanked for all his help and given a key to the city. When Superlad inquires about how they know how to speak English they reveal that they have been watching the Earth and know all about Superman's adventures.
Jimmy then tries to settle into a normal life on Zolum, by posing as a farmer. When a giant twelve-legged mole attacks their underground garden, Jimmy changes into Superlad and fights it off. Changing back into his farmer's disguise, the farmers greet him once more as Jimmy Olsen, prompting him to take up another occupation to try and shield his true identity.
Jimmy tries time and time again with different professions, from sailor, to soldier to police officer. Answering dangers as Superlad, and then changing back into his civilian disguise only to be outed once again as Jimmy Olsen. When Superman finally finds Jimmy and brings him home, Jimmy relates to the hard time he had keeping his true identity secret. Superman then tells Jimmy that to do so would have been impossible on the planet Zolum, as all the people who live there are telepaths.

Synopsis for "The Million-Dollar Mistakes!"
At the Daily Planet, Perry, Lois, Jimmy and Clark have spent time answering letters from Daily Planet readers who have donated a dollar each to fund an orphanage. They count out a million dollars in one dollar bills. Since it's a hot day, Jimmy unthinkingly turns on the desk fan blowing all the money out the window into the street below. When Jimmy activates his signal watch to get Superman's help, Clark slips away to change into the Man of Steel.
Superman constructs a gigantic vacuum to collect up all the bills and counts them out at super-speed, and to everyone's relief not a single dollar is missing. Perry scolds Jimmy for such a bone-head move and Jimmy assures Superman that it's impossible for him to lose a million dollars twice in one day.
Later, while listening to a Metropolis All-Stars game on the radio, Jimmy learns that it's a no-hitter game and decides that the story could be an ideal scoop for the Daily Planet. Jimmy rushes to the stadium in the Flying Newsroom just as it begins to rain. The stadium puts up it's weather dome so that the game can continue to play despite the rain, and Jimmy ends up flying the Planet's helicopter right into it, crashing down into the middle of the ball-field. The manager of the All-Stars is furious and tells Jimmy that he intends to sue the cub reporter for $250,000 in damages. As he is being escorted off the field a man in a suit attempts to hand Jimmy an envelope. Thinking this is a lawyer trying to give him a citation, Jimmy flees the scene.
Escaping in a hot-air balloon, Jimmy manages to get away however a gust of wind threatens to carry him out of Metropolis and so he calls Superman for help. Superman uses his super-breath to blow Jimmy in the opposite direction. As his luck would have it, Jimmy's balloon bursts and he falls right in the middle of the baseball field again, this time knocking out the All-Star's star pitcher. Even more furious than before, the manager of the All-Stars threatens to sue Jimmy for an additional $250,000.
Seeking a means to make the $500,000 that he now owes, Jimmy goes to his friend Professor Potter to see if the scientist knows a way he can generate the money he needs quickly. Potter loans Jimmy his new experimental Earth-Mole device to drill into the Earth and try to find valuable minerals. After digging for countless hours Jimmy only finds a discarded chunk of Kryptonite but nothing of value. Returning to the surface Jimmy's bad luck strikes again and he finds himself surfacing in the middle of the ball-field for the third time in a row. Raging mad, the manager of the All-Stars increases his lawsuit by another $500,000 putting Jimmy in the hawk for a million dollars.
When the man in the suit finally catches up to Jimmy he tells the young reporter that he is a representative of Samuel Gotrocks, a millionaire who hands out money at random and that Jimmy's name was the one that was selected to be given a check for a million dollars. Jimmy is excited at first until he remember his pending lawsuit, and soon turns it over to the manage of the All-Stars to cover the damages he's caused.

Synopsis for "Jimmy Olsen's Super-Signals!"
When a crook posing as Professor Potter attempts to steal Jimmy's signal watch, Superman reveals the ruse identifying the crook as a member of the Anti-Superman Gang. The experience makes Jimmy worry about keeping his signal watch safe so that the gang cannot get a hold of it. Afraid it might stolen while he sleeps Jimmy wracks his brain trying to figure out where to hide his signal watch until he passes out. In his sleep he begins sleep walking and hides his signal watch somewhere.
When Jimmy wakes up in the morning he recalls hiding his watch but cannot for the life of himself remember where. When he can't find it, he decides to wear a duplicate watch so Superman doesn't find out that Jimmy lost his watch and goes about his daily business. When Jimmy is on the set of a naval film, he witnesses a ship crash into an iceberg and start to sink. Without his signal watch and knowing Superman is in the area, Jimmy gets his attention by lobbing cannon shells at the Man of Steel. Superman then comes to the rescue, and afterward Jimmy makes an excuse as to why he didn't use his signal watch.
Later when on assignment to the Metropolis Amusement Park, Jimmy is once more accosted by members of the Anti-Superman Gang, who steal his fake signal watch. Jimmy uses a giant Indian chief statue to make smoke signals in Morse code signal Superman. Jimmy tells Superman what happens and the Man of Steel recovers the fake watch for him, much to Jimmy's dismay.
Later while out to see a movie, Jimmy notices that "Ace" Manton, the leader of the Anti-Superman gang is in the car right next to him. Sneaking out of his car and going to the projection booth, Jimmy makes a cut-out of the Superman symbol and puts it over the film projection to call Superman. When the Man of Steel arrives, Jimmy points out where "Ace" is and Superman easily captures him.
Later that night, as Jimmy is getting ready for bed he finds his signal watch: In his sleep he had attached it to his ankle and had it on himself the whole time.
