Synopsis for "The Infinitus Saga: Part 3 of 5"

Byth Rok has used Ultra the Multi-Alien to open a rift in reality to bring forth the Infinity Wraiths and begin the process that will see Ultra become the world-destroying entity called Infinitus in the time of the Legion of Super-Heroes. For the sake of their present, the Legion has travelled back to the past to prevent Ultra's transformation from coming to pass, with the help of the Justice League United. Despite never having heard of the Legion, the JLU is surprised to find that these young super-humans know everything about them.

Meanwhile, Equinox tries to break through to Ultra, whom she befriended on Earth before he was kidnapped for Byth by The Cadre. He breaks his concentration to answer her, to Byth's annoyance, and thankfully, Dawnstar swoops down to prevent Byth from forcing Ultra back into his connection with the rift. She cannot, however, prevent Black Mass from teleporting Ultra and Byth away, along with Hawkman.

While trying to fight off the onslaught of Infinity Wraiths, the combined Legionnaires and JLU are surprised to be zapped back to Rann, where their compatriots are waiting. Animal Man explains regretfully to Martian Manhunter that they lost Ultra to Byth, and he determines that perhaps he can reach Ultra's mind from across even this great distance. He is successful, and begs Ultra to resist Byth's influence, despite his fears and his rapidly expanding mind. Though J'onn tries to be comforting, he is surprised when Byth invades their telepathic link, promising power that J'onn would see Ultra robbed of. He expells J'onn from Ultra's mind, and recovering, J'onn reports to the others that Byth is far more than they thought he was.

Nervously, Green Arrow reminds that if they can't get Ultra back, then the future in which Infinitus kills millions of innocents will certainly come to pass. They might be better off killing Ultra than letting that happen. Snidely, Star Girl puts the matter to a vote, and everyone is unanimously opposed to that course of action.

While Brainiac 5 tries to form a plan for closing the rift through which the Infinity Wraiths are pouring - and heading their way - the others decide to unite both in keeping the wraiths away from Rann and Thanagar, and to rescue Ultra. Saturn Girl outfits everyone who needs one with a Legion Flight Ring, and they all fly out to face their enemies.

Byth, meanwhile, leads his companions to a spacecraft in which he hopes to get them to the rift itself, knowing that Ultra must be brought nearer to it if they want to complete the summoning of Infinitus. When the Legionnaires catch up to the ship, Brainiac 5 warns them to hurry and keep Ultra from being put in the rift. Even with the three most powerful among them speeding after the ship, they are too slow to prevent the ship from entering the rift with Ultra on board.
