Synopsis for "The Martian Horse"
Professional gambler Dan Harber is having a losing streak at the track. A group of gangsters demands that he pay the $3000 that he owes for gambling debts. Harber claims that he does not have the money to pay and asks to be given until Saturday to come up with the funds. As he walks home, he observes a spaceship crashing on a nearby small Island by a bridge. Harber jumps in the water recalling how he used to be a champion diver in college. He swims out to the spaceship and finds it abandoned except for a magnificent stallion. He notices that the stallion possesses powerful athletic features and decides to enter it in a race. The horse wins handedly and Harber is able to erase his debts in no time. The horse continues to win race after race. Harber becomes curious as to the horse’s origin and decides to take him back to his spaceship. With the horse’s assistance, Harber is able to repair the spaceship and they travel to the Martian planet. Upon landing they receive a hero’s welcome from crowd of Martians who are cheering their hero whose name Is Zahoo. They are cheering the fact that he has once again successfully brought back a human. Harber inquires as to what the horses want with him and it is revealed that the Martian horses like to gamble too. They use Harber as their entry in a diving competition against other competitors from different planets. Apparently Zahoo the horse had observed Harber’s diving form as he jumped off the bridge and decided to retrieve him for the purpose of entering him in gabling contests. Zahoo remarks at the end that he may return to Earth to pick up more humans in the future.
