Synopsis for Liberty Belle: "Voyage Down the Styx"

The Styxville Manor tourist resort features an underground lake and river with boat rides through a system of caverns, beneath an old-fashioned inn, out in the countryside. A pair of boat-riding robbers, in body-covering disguises, has recently infested the caverns, robbing tourists of jewelery and cash. Columnist and commentator Libby Lawrence visits the place, and with cooperation of the resort manager and the local sheriff, she baits a trap for the crooks by ostentatiously wearing expensive jewelery and calling attention to it in her column. Libby gets knocked unconscious (pistol butt to the head) and robbed; the sheriff gets shot trying to rescue her. That night, Liberty Belle investigates the cornfield where this happened, and finds a tunnel with a camoflaged entrance, but the place is booby-trapped with dynamite and she's lucky to escape. The cornfield belongs to local farmer Ephriam Wells, who turns out to be in on the crimes, as does the unnamed manager of the resort; Liberty Belle gets knocked out in Wells' kitchen with some knockout gas, tied up, and sent over an underground waterfall in a skiff. She escapes from that and turns the tables on the bad guys.
