Synopsis for Unknown Soldier: "Man of War"

The American war effort in the North African campaign is threatened to stall, as an American tank company, which is instrumental in the campaign, under the command of Colonel "Bloody" Barton is refusing to advance. The Unknown Soldier is sent to investigate Barton's tankers.

Posing as a new tanker, the Soldier learns that Barton's men despise their commander for pushing them in training maneuvers in preparation for their assault on the Nazis. The Soldier participates in the grueling tank maneuvers under the desert sun. One of the tankers suffers from heat prostration. Barton has the man out of the tank, but insists that the training continues. The training turns worst when one tank falls off a ledge and causes one man to die from the fall. Barton, who is indifferent to the man's death, orders his men to repair the tank much to the disgust of everyone.

Realizing that the tankers could mutiny, the Soldier tries to convince Barton to give his men one night's leave to ease their attitudes. But Barton strongly denies his request. However, the Soldier decides to go against Barton's orders and takes the men out night-clubbing while claiming that Barton gave their blessing.

The next day, Barton is upset about the unauthorized leave, but regardless orders his men to prepare for their assault. Barton's tanks engages Nazi panzers in a heated armor battle which ends in American victory. However, Barton is killed in the battle.
