Synopsis for "Superman: Up in the Sky, Part 7 – Run"

Alice recounts a race of ten laps around the world between the Flash and Superman some time ago for a charitable cause. She states that she couldn't watch it as it was too expensive, but it was on the lips of every person and she did catch a part of it on the neighbor's television. She also read about from the Daily Planet article written by Lois Lane, which is why she knows what happened during the race so well.

The Flash got ahead in the first lap but Superman pared the distance between the two in the next lap. She thinks he might have lagged behind earlier deliberately to test Flash's speed and whether he could win, just like she did during races with her brother Raf. Raf however died in a shelter home. In the third lap, Superman again started trailing. Lex Luthor who was also watching the race, called up the charity and promised to donate a billion dollars if Superman won, though asking them not to announce it so he doesn't feel bad if he lost.

Alice states Lex believed Superman will lose, but wanted to announce the bet publicly if he lost so he'd feel ashamed and people hate him for losing all that money. Superman however heard about the bet since he was always keeping an ear out for him and determined that he had to win. In the sixth lap, he started catching up to the Flash again but was tired by the next lap. As he rested to catch his breath. He knew winning was nearly impossible but a huge amount of money would be lost.

Although others were upset, she wasn't. She knew Superman is full of contradiction like her who had been hurt first by her parents, and then in shelter homes, but still kept going and thus knew he would too. He started running again and by the end of the race defeated Flash. Due to the money he won for the charity, Alice got to go to a good and safe shelter home for the first time in her life. She believes that just like that time Superman will come to save her.

Synopsis for "The Supergirl from Krypton, Part Two: Visitor"

This story is reprinted from Superman/Batman #9.

Superman and Batman are in the Fortress of Solitude examining the spaceship that brought Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El to Earth. Batman queries Superman on a line of the plaque on it. Superman confirms that it is treasure, not terror or trouble, that Kara would be for the planet. They also discover that it has a kind of solar light generators that bathe the occupant in sunlight.

Kara bursts through the door, chased by Krypto. Superman calls him off, and Batman sends Kara out, while trying to convince Superman that he fears that she may not be who she says she is, and asks if he finds it suspicious that the dog hates her. Superman says no, because the dog hates everyone. Later, Batman confronts Kara. She tries to convince him that she's who she claims to be, but Batman explains that he doesn't trust her because she desperately wants him to. Superman turns up and tells his cousin has been through enough, and he's taking her out, whether Batman likes or not.

On Apokolips, a girl called Precious challenges the Female Furies. They defeat her, and Darkseid commands Granny Goodness to get him a suitable replacement for Big Barda. He demands the girl who fell on Earth.

In Metropolis, Clark shows Kara around while Bruce tails them from the shadows. They go to the Superman Memorial. Kara realizes that the reason Clark's simple disguise works is because Earth people think of Superman as someone bigger than them.

All of sudden, they are attacked. Kara tries to fly away, but a golden rope wraps around her ankle and pulls her back. Clark changes to Superman and races to her rescue, but Harbinger appears and restrains him. An archer shoots at Batman and he throws a batarang, breaking her bow. Superman throws off Harbinger as Batman confronts the archer: Amazon warrior Artemis. She knocks him down and prepares to stab him, but he drops her with a dart. Meanwhile, Kara is pulled in by her assailant: Wonder Woman.

Synopsis for "Branded"

This story is reprinted from Green Lantern (Volume 4) #9.

Batman calls on Green Lantern to take on a new version of an old foe - the Tattooed Man. This one is in the Cityside Motel in Gotham City, and has been murdering people, including Lou Rosen who was cheating on his wife. While Green Lantern takes on his tattoos, Batman takes out the man himself. Back in the Batcave, Hal has Bruce try on the ring, to try and help him overcome his inner demons. Bruce conjures up images of bats a first, but then gains control and forms a vision of his parents. Batman tells him he's not ready to give up his darkness, but thanks anyway and they part ways.
