Synopsis for "The Unity Saga, Part 5"

General Zod, ruler of planet Jekuul, drinks from the spirits of the planet he conquered and has a vision of the future. The vision shows him and his House gathering with the House of El and the last survivors of the House of Kandor having claimed Jekuul as their New Krypton. Under the yellow sun of Jekuul, the surviving Kryptonians can become gods and expand the glory of Krypton beyond the stars. He only asks Superman, his greatest enemy, to set aside their ideological differences and finally make peace. Unfortunately, joy gives way to tragedy, as Rogol Zaar and his army attack New Krypton. The Houses of El, Kandor and Zod are slaughtered, leaving Zod to face Rogol by himself.

Zod is snapped out of his vision by his wife Ursa, who worries about Zod constantly drinking from the spirits of Jekuul, even though Zod says the visions give him hope for the future. Their son Lor arrives with news from Earth, saying the entire planet has disappeared.

The Phantom Zone continues to be the battlefield between Superman and Rogol Zaar. Unfortunately, the battle does not go in Superman's favor, as his powers have been severely drained by the Phantom Zone's poisonous atmosphere and the lack of yellow sunlight. Knowing he is at a huge disadvantage, Superman is forced to escape into the wasteland and, surprisingly, Rogol allows him. Jax-Ur asks why did Rogol let Superman escape and Rogol answers that there is no way Superman can escape from the Phantom Zone and, in time, he will die by his hand. Until then, Rogol and his forces work towards finding a way to escape from the Phantom Zone.

Meanwhile, in the normal universe, Adam Strange uses his communication channels in an attempt to discover what exactly happened to Earth while he was gone. Surprisingly, someone answered Adam's calls: General Zod, who also wants to know what happened to Earth. Adam and Zod spot a small blue sphere in the distance: the shrunken Earth. Adam realizes the Atom was responsible for this. Before anything can be done, however, the small Earth suddenly regains its full size. Adam and Zod are caught in the planet's gravitational pull and land in different places, Adam in Metropolis and Zod in the Persian Gulf.

Coming to his senses, Adam tries to call the Atom, who is surprised his plan worked. They don't have much time to talk, however, as Zod arrives at S.T.A.R. Labs and forcefully asks the people of Earth to use the Phantom Earth projector on him. The Atom quickly agrees and activates the projector, sending Zod into the Phantom Zone. Surprised by this turn of events, the Atom wonders if he did the right thing.

Back in the Phantom Zone, Superman wanders across a desolate wasteland, while Rogol separates himself from his army and silently waits for his enemy to find him. Superman is happy to have lived the life he lived, he does not have regrets, but he also wonders if Rogol truly was Krypton's destroyer. If that's true, that means Superman must now spend eternity with the monster that killed his people. That single thought fills Superman with anger, his eyes burning with heat vision. But that anger quickly dissipates when Superman has vision of his parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. He remembers they once told him that if tests were easy, they wouldn't be tests at all. The memory of the Kents allows Superman to calm down. Now, all Superman has to do is come up with a plan to escape from the Phantom Zone. He wonders what would his wife Lois do under similar circumstances. The answer is simple: use the current situation to his advantage.

Superman returns to Rogol, aware that he has been waiting for him, but instead of fighting, he asks Rogol who destroyed his homeworld, wondering if Rogol blames Kryptonians for that. Rogol refuses to satisfy Superman's curiosity and instead, he proclaims that once he destroys Earth, he will scour the galaxy for whatever hybrid children Superman might have. Superman, however, is not impressed by such a threat, surprising Rogol, who says that if he himself faced the destroyer of his home and people, he would stop at nothing to claim vengeance.

Suddenly, their exchange is interrupted by a blast of heat vision. A voice speaks from above, telling Rogol that Superman does not care about revenge; but he is Zod and revenge is what he does best.
