Superman and Green Lantern get into a rivalry over their respective powers, and Felix Faust takes the opportunity to masquerade as Dr. Fate, create an illusion of a Guardian of the Universe, and lure both of them into a power-test which is actually a trap.

Synopsis for "The Fury of the Kryptonian-Killer!"

This story is reprinted from Superman #195.

Amalak brainwashes Rinol-Jag, last survivor of a planet which was destroyed by a planet-sized chunk of Kryptonite, into hating all things Kryptonian. Rinol-Jag goes on a hate crusade against the survivors of Krypton, destroying monuments to Superman, Supergirl, Jor-El and Lara, breaking into the Fortress of Solitude to capture the bottle-city of Kandor, and then using Kryptonite to capture Superman, Supergirl, and Krypto. But when Amalak tries to activate a device that will explode the Earth, Rinol-Jag questions his actions, and is shot by Amalak's ray-gun. Falling, Rinol frees Superman, who is wounded by Amalak but nevertheless manages to knock him out and short-circuit his bomb. Later, Amalak is imprisoned, and Rinol-Jag makes friends with Superman and Supergirl.

Synopsis for "World of Faceless Slaves!"

At a time in which Oliver Queen is considering running for mayor of Star City, he and Clark Kent are kidnapped by a sorcerer from 15,000 years ago. The magician, Effron, wishes to use Green Arrow as his champion in a duel for kingship of a world of people without faces.

Synopsis for "Menace of the Energy-Blackmailers!"

This story is reprinted from Superman #279.

When calling Batman up, Superman takes up a request for help in stopping oil smugglers. Traveling to Gotham City, Superman masquerades as Batman who had agreed to M.C. for a concert, while the real Caped Crusader watches out for the smugglers. Unaware that Barbara Gordon is in the audience watching the show, Superman leaves his Clark Kent clothing behind as he responds to Batman's call for aid, allowing Barbara (who sneaks back stage to say hello to Batman) finds Clark Kent's press badge.

Superman comes and helps bring the boat of illegal oil back into Gotham City waters so that Batman and Superman can arrest the smugglers. The report makes the papers, making Barbara wonder why Clark Kent was posing as Batman at the benefit, and decides to go and ask him that on her next business trip to Metropolis.

However, when visiting Clark his explanation is interrupted when a building is about to crumble. Clark manages to ditch Barbara to change to Superman and stop the building from tumbling before the fire team can rescue those inside. Superman is later joined by Batgirl just as somebody threatens to use a sonic device to destroy Metropolis unless they turn over all the cities oil.

Superman and Batgirl trace the signal of the broadcast to the Metropolis twin towers and burst in to find that the threat maker is oil tycoon J. Saul Kerry. They put a stop to him and prevent his oil tanker from flooding Metropolis harbor. That night on the news, Clark Kent reveals to the world that he was asked to pose as Batman while Batman and Superman stopped the energy black mailers.
