Synopsis for "Bleeding Hearts; or, I Fight The Authority and The Authority Always Wins"

Savant, Jodi, and Nemesis have infiltrated the Carrier and the Authority are not happy about it, as the bomb threat turns to be an explosive made of lime-flavored gelatin. Jenny Quarx leaves after she perceives that the girls pose no threat and leaves the rest of her team to deal with the situation. Savant desperately tries to hurry and access the Carrier's database while Jodi and Nemesis try to hold off the Authority.

To buy Savant more time, Nemesis telepathically tells the Carrier about the future she saw. This causes the Carrier to cut itself off from the Authority and their ability to summon doors. Jodi takes on Swift and keeps her occupied. Barely able to fend off Midnighter, Nemesis resorts to using her sword to cut a hole in the Carrier's hull and creating a breach, as the Bleed threatens to enter the shiftship's internals and rip its internal reality apart. As the Authority scrambles to fix what Nemesis did, she's teleported away by Savant who successfully downloaded the information they needed. With the girls gone, the Authority members are dumbfounded as to how the trio got in and out. The Engineer tries to communicate with the Carrier to find out but instead she finds the ship overwhelmingly sad.

Savant goes through the Authority's surveillance data and finds this to be a complete waste of time, as the data contains years of countless information on clandestine organizations that she never even heard of, and there is nothing close enough to the secret conspiracy Nemesis believe will trigger Earth's apocalypse. Jodi suggests speaking to a veteran post-human, in which Nemesis knows who to call.

At Angra Dos Reis, Nemesis pays Majestic a social call which is designed as a distraction so Savant can raid his databases in Mount Rushmore. Majestic tells Nemesis that he already knows about their raid at headquarters and he allowed it only because Nemesis is involved.

Afterwards, the girls have found a file detailing a whole slew of post-humans who disappeared during the early days of the Cold War in which nobody is meant to remember these people. Savant knows someone who might know these lost superhumans, in which she and her companions make their next stop at the small town of Tranquility.
