Synopsis for "Phantom Truths"

At MediChem Corporate Headquarters at Midtown Manhattan, Doctor Jordan Quick was walking out, on his way home, while talking to fellow doctor, Adrienne Beller. Beller told Quick that she would visit Stan Macklin in a nursing home. Quick claimed that Macklin blamed him for his accident. Suddenly, when the two doctors reached another room, they saw a monstrous being called Serpentine who said that he had come to "visit his sins upon him." Serpentine grabbed Quick by the chest and claimed that he had ruined the life of a friend of his and that he had to pay for that. Beller pleaded with Serpentine not to hurt Quick as what her fellow doctor did was an accident. Serpentine decided to release Quick, but declared that he was not finished. Suddenly, some guards came in, pointing their guns at Serpentine. The monster responded by picking up an air conditioner and throwing it at the guards before disappearing.

At 9:35 P.M., in St. Catherine of Siena Church in Brooklyn, Alex came looking for Javi after receiving a call from him. Javi said that he called Alex there to express his remorse over killing Max Kern. Alex responded by saying that Kern was a monster and that by killing him, Javi saved him and countless others. Next, Alex exited the church, leaving his brother behind to pray. When Alex came outside, he was met by Noah and Devlin who gave him a report testimony given by Adrienne Beller. In the report, Beller mentioned that Dr. Stanley Macklin had been testing radiation therapy on a lab animal who they had induced a lymphoma. The test went wrong and Macklin was exposed to high amounts of radiation. However, Macklin was not killed. Hightower and Devlin enlisted Alex's help in investigating Macklin's injury.

Later, Alex arrived at MediChem where Garrison, an security guard at the hospital, took him to Beller and her fellow doctor Peter Warren in Lab #7. The two doctors discovered that Macklin was handling untested materials that he should not have used and that it was Quick's fault for working him so hard to meet deadlines that he had no other choice.

Later, at the Curie Home in Flushing, Queens, Alex came to talk to Dr. Macklin about MediChem. Alex informed Macklin that since his accident, MediChem has been the victim of several strange vandalisms and deduced that it was the work of someone with a huge grudge against the company, which would be him. Macklin defended himself by saying that even if he had a grudge, that he could not get out of his wheelchair. As soon as Alex had left, Macklin got up, dressed up as Serpentine, went to MediChem, and shut down the power. Alex, who was in the hospital, suited up as Firebrand and located Serpentine, who he saw was searching for files in Quick's office. Firebrand fought Serpentine until he damaged his mask enough to reveal his face, learning that he was actually Macklin. Macklin informed Firebrand that he was looking for files to prove Quick's negligence. As security headed for Quick's office, Serpentine fled, leaving Firebrand to be confronted by security and shot until he fell out of a window.
