The First of the Fallen was the first Fallen Angel and the supreme ruler of Hell[2][1] after Lucifer left.

Origins

The being that would become the First of the Fallen was originally amongst the first angels created by The Presence. However, he was eventually banished from Heaven and cast down to Hell - becoming the first of the many others who would fall. He became the ruler of Hell at some point after Lucifer abandoned the throne.

Rise of the Otherkind

At some point in time, The First began operating a club in New York City called The Morning Star, where he collected souls as cost for entry to the club.[3]

During the invasion of the Otherkind, Zatanna visited the First at his club, in an attempt to convince him to aid them against the Otherkind, by opening up Hell for refugees. He dismisses Zatana's offer and states that they should have offered him a deal involving their souls. Shortly after, a member of the Otherkind called "The Soup", appeared at the club. The First transported Zatana away and attempted to negotiate with The Soup, however when this failed, he attempted to call in demons, though it is revealed the rest of the Otherkind had already anticipated this and attacked the demons in Hell. The Soup then drowned The First of the Fallen in acid, seemingly killing him.[3] His death is later confirmed by Detective Chimp who states that Hell was now in a civil war.[2]

Infinite Frontier

The First later came back to life through unknown means and reclaimed his place as Ruler of Hell.[1]

Powers

  • Fallen Angel Physiology: As one of the oldest beings created by The Presence, the First possesses immense supernatural power, and is considered most powerful being in Hell.[1] Due to his status as a Fallen Angel, the First no longer retains any of his angelic features, instead taking on a more demonic appearance.[1]
    • Cosmic Awareness: The First possesses understanding of the workings of creation on a cosmic scale. He has even been shown capable of sensing from dimensions he is not physically in.[1]
    • Dimensional Travel: The First of the Fallen has the ability to travel back and fourth from Hell and Earth at will.[3] He can also transport others to and from Hell at will.[1]
    • Immortality: As a Fallen Angel, the First is functionally immortal, and cannot die by any ordinary means. He will never grow physically old and can live forever. Despite being temporarily killed by the Otherkind, the First later came back through unknown means.[3]
    • Metamorphosis: The First is able to alter his appearance at will, allowing him to appear in various forms.[1]
    • Necromancy: The First possesses control over the damned souls of Hell and has made deals with humans in exchange for souls.[1]
    • Telepathy: Martian Manhunter stated that the only reason that he could read the First's mind was that he allowed it, suggesting that the First possesses incredible psionic abilities.[1]
    • Teleportation: The First is capable of instantly opening portals at will, in order to transport himself or others wherever he chooses.[3]

Abilities

Weaknesses

Equipment

  • Unholy Armor of Immortal Misery: The First of the Fallen created this armor to face the one he hates the most. It is forged from the chitinous shells of the things that dwelt in Hell before he came there, in a time that was not or could not be, sewn together with the hatred of the most despicable damned that place has ever known. It has also been worn by the heroic Supergirl.[1]

  • Despite being an adaptation of Satan, as his previous version, so far it has not been mentioned that Satan could be one of his aliases.
