Franco Bertinelli was a major player in Gotham organized crime for many years, rising to become head of the Five Families. His daughter was Helena Bertinelli. Eventually rival don Stefano Mandragora had his entire family murdered, and the little girl was the only one to survive the hit. Helena would go on to become the Huntress, determined to avenge the deaths of her family and rid the world of men like her father one crossbow bolt at a time.
Franco Bertinelli was created (as Guido Bertinelli) by Joey Cavalieri and Joe Staton in Huntress #1 (1989), and later recreated post-Zero Hour by Greg Rucka and Rick Burchett in Batman/Huntress: Cry for Blood #1 (2000).
