Dr. Franz Ebner was a German scientist murdered in Gotham City thirty years ago.
History
Franz Ebner was working in Gotham City, researching the energy field of the human body. He murdered his assistant John Wells for some unknown reason and was imprisoned at Gotham State Penitentiary. While in prison, he spent all his time writing non-stop, claiming that he was writing in the name of a "geist", the German word for ghost or spirit; from this he gained the prison nickname "Dr. Geist". He was regularly visited by Charles Quinton and taught the younger man all the secrets of his research.
After his release, he was murdered in his hotel room with a sharp spike stabbed through the back of his neck between the C1 and C2 vertebrae. The wound did not kill him outright, but left him paralysed from the neck down and unable to breathe, until he slowly suffocated to death.
