Synopsis for Immortal Wonder Woman in "Future State"

Impossibly long ago, the distant future. Gotham City, the Batcave

Diana is visiting the Batcave, as the Dark Knight is now deceased: Bruce's spirit manifests inside it, talking to her about their roles in the past, and also in the future. As long as there is something good to fight for, they must push, and Diana most of all, because she has always been the heart of the group. She went to the cave to gather a belt Batman left, previewing the fact he would leave this world. As Diana comes out of the cave, she witnesses something happening in the sky, and, afraid, hustles to call for help.

Meanwhile, in Apokolips

Darkseid is deaf to the words of both Barda and his son, Orion, who want him to act, after New Genesis was destroyed, against a dark force who is overwhelming all existence, with the power of the Anti-Life Equation. Both Barda and Orion are left to their fate, dying, while Darkseid leaves for another place.

Back to Earth, Themyscira

Swamp Thing welcomes back Diana, noticing she is wearing Batman's belt: he is clearly struggling, weakened and on the verge of death, but understands Diana took the decision: she will do it. The Amazon then tells Swamp Thing he must survive, he must try to remain alive with all his strength, as she will find a place for the Green to thrive again.

As she reaches the council of the Amazons, Diana is welcomed by an idea she does not like: her sisters want to go to war against the dark force menacing Earth. How can they not understand? This planet is terminal, sick and rotten to the core, with the Green and life itself dying. They must transfer to another planet, and restart: there is no fighting for the survival of Earth. But Diana's sisters won't listen: going away is not the way of the Amazon. Staying on Earth, and fighting is. Diana is overwhelmed by the sheer determination of her sisters about a thing so wrong and illogical, and decides to leave: is this the fate of the Amazons, after they inherited Earth once the Era of Men came to an end? They inherited a condemned world, but her sisters are still determined to fight for it. But Diana would prefer to go away and see life flourish again, rather than fighting a fight with no hope and no chance of victory.

At the same time, Darkseid is approaching Earth's orbit: he never thought he would come back to this planet. It's now a husk, something worthless to fight for, but it seems some of the heroes still cling to the place. The strongest of them. Darkseid is passionate about the situation: he feels like a young god again, ready to rule. Would Earth now welcome him as its ruler? Then, he sees a figure approaching him in flight: his greatest nemesis, Superman, the champion of Earth. But he cannot do anything against the mighty Darkseid: he is on the ground, defeated, as the dark god stands on the surface of a dying planet. He fights the Amazons, too, and Diana cannot stay away from the battlefield. She must help her sisters.

But the power of Darkseid is too much to handle: the Amazons, and Swamp Thing, all die. Diana and Clark remain alone, with Swamp Thing and the Green delivering to Wonder Woman a final gift. And as Clark is in the grasp of Darkseid, Diana will have to hang on to life, and try to find a way to get out of this impossible situation...

Synopsis for Nubia in "Future State"

Atlanta. Michael C. Carlos Museum

Grail is inside a museum in Atlanta, looking to steal an artifact, when Nubia intervenes to stop her from taking it. Grail supposed that all Amazon forces were retired from the world of men, but it seems someone decided to not follow the orders. Also, the Lasso of Truth seems to be in the hands of Nubia now: is she Wonder Woman, then? Nubia tells Grail she is, and that she also does not have the best of relationships with her sister Diana now, and she prefers to not talk about it. The two women fight, and the mysterious artifact she was trying to steal reacts to Nubia: in the Amazon's mind, strange memories awaken and resurface, while a powerful aura protects her from Grail's shots. So, Grail leaves, deeming what happened interesting, and still managing to steal what she wanted. Nubia is trying to understand: why that artifact brought to her memory that specific person? A skeleton is her closet is not what she wanted, or needed, right now.

The Ebony Web. Later

The person showed to her by the artifact is Nubia's aunt Nancy, director of the Ebony Web. She is, in truth, a goddess, and she was involved in an epic conflict that the artifact showed to Nubia. She needs answers, but as part of her aunt being a goddess, she has to make a deal with her. No favoritisms. So, she accepts to intervene in favor of her aunt when called next time, and obtains what she wanted: Nancy explains her that back at the origins of Earth, god were battling for supremacy, and the sheer force of those wars was threatening the planet's own survival. Some of the gods were afraid for the fate of Earth, and united in a plan to confine the bloodlust and rage of many gods away, so that they might become more peaceful and stop the many conflicts they started.

The thing is, they could not know that their actions would have side effects: the power of the rage and the bloodlust of the gods was to strong, it could tear holes in the fabric of reality, releasing ancient evils from other planes of existence. To prevent anyone to use this power, they divided it in nine artifacts, and hid those in different parts of the world. Until now, the plan worked, but it seems Grail now is informed about the power of the nine artifacts, and she's trying to reunite them all. She already put her hands on eight of them, with only one remaining. Nubia must intervene, but Nancy tells her she's sure the remaining artifact is well guarded. As she gets ready to move though, Nubia gets absorbed into a portal against her own will...
