While I was fighting in my war, far across the ocean... at pretty nearly the same time... a young French soldier was fighting his war. A wound made the young soldier speechless... He silently rocked away the years until he became an old soldier... sitting before a window... in a town where nothing ever happened... waiting... waiting... for what?

Notes
- During the first story "Battle Window" General J.E.B. Stuart states that the young French soldier was fighting his war at the same time the General was fighting in the American Civil War, which would place the French soldier in the Shimonoseki Campaign of the Japanese Civil War. The French were also heavily involved in the Franco-Mexican War at the time, but the General states that the French soldier was "far across the ocean".
- The first story "Battle Window" is reprinted in G.I. Combat #148.
